The tournament rules specify "all ships from one Empire".
I had been interpreting this to mean no "general" ships, like freighters or whatever, just warships. (And no Santa Claus or Lucifer's Carrot either! ) But some players are interpreting this to mean that you can take a DN, BCH and Free Trader as three ships, which runs counter to my intuition on what's really intended.

I didn't mean to stir anything up... I could go without the Trader if I needed too. It wouldn't make that much difference. But I had 22 points left to spend and it fit in.

Don't worry piner. You haven't done anything wrong.
However, this is a very valid question for Terry to pursue and I'm looking forward to hearing a definitive answer.

... and I got the answer: No.
General ships may not be used by any empire, nor do they form an empire unto themselves.

How about middle years ships or early years if they ever come out?
I am board with looking good.

I doubt it. Middle Years is an alternative setting. The Tournament is meant to be played with ships from the main setting.

And no monsters either... Too bad, I was looking forward to taking the Planet Killer and Santa Claus

You have to have 3 ships. Too bad Pinecone. Looked like a nice Squad to me.

Ohh, yeah. Drat. (Goes to basement to figure out new squad...)
Okay:
Plasma-DN
War Destroyer
Police Cutter x2
The DW and 1 POL have about the same crunch as a BC. and the other POL can cart around the DNF, which saves it's power.

That works. Too bad there's no Plasma CA. (I don't think.)

There's always the BCF.

If you mean that the Police ship can tractor the DNF, remember that the DNF cannot fire while tractored by a friendly ship, and the DNF is larger than the POL so the POL's base speed is reduced by two levels. So if the POL's base speed is 24, it gets reduced 24->16->8, and it pays 1.75 points to accelerate!!

I thought it could fire, and the plan was to have it tractor and not fire anything so the DNF could use all it's energy for weapons.
And Wolverine, I wanted the BCF, but it didn't fit.

I thought about that after I posted. Sorry.
