ESG Offensive Burst
How is the damage resolved when you use an ESG as an Offensive Burst? Does it go to the facing shield of the opponent's ship or does the damage get dispersed across all of the ship's shields, like a hellbore?

ESGs in an Offensive Burst work just like a direct fire weapon. The determination of how the damage is split up between multiple targets is unique to the ESG. But, once the damage has been assigned to a ship, it is applied like any other direct fire weapon.
Therefore, it works just like Bolo said: Apply to the facing shield. If on a shield boundary, then target chooses between possible shields.

In Star Fleet Battles it was a ring, it was set at 0 to 3 when you raised it ---
Fly around the map trying to bump into something with it, before the energy ran out and you had to power it again --- IIRC, there was a cool down turn also ---
FC removed that use, now its fired (for lack of better term), in Offensive or Defensive modes ---
