Brigman's minis

Post by Brigman »

SWO Daddy finally talked me into checking out the minis over here. Great stuff you guys! Thought I'd post up some of my own recent work.

Got inspired to do a few "Adam Turner specials" of my own, including the White Flame.

The DN is a kitbash built by Mike Raper years ago, before ADB produced its official version. Mike's is a chunk bigger - more like battleship - but is really cool. The other two are a BR and CR.

Adam, I really dig your work. :)

And another inspired project: I painted a Gorn Commando Cruiser in WW II, RAF-inspired colors:

Great job on the Orions, Dale.

I love the way you completed Mike's DN.

Nice to see you over here Dale. Your minis are top-notch, so it will be nice for folks here to see them.

Spiffy avatar, btw (gee... I wonder who drew it  )

Thanks fellas!

Haven't been much in the mood for "batch jobs" lately so painting "unique" ships has been a nice break.

To do the color scheme on the Gorn COM, I just found some good pics of WW II RAF Spitfires. Not a perfect match, but close enough for me, and fun.

Mike Raper did a great job on his DN 'bash. I like it better than the "official" Orion DN, which is just a slightly-stretched BCH. But it IS kind of redonkulously ginormous...

Glad you like the avatar, Will. What's the fun in being an artist if you can't make your own avatar, right? :D

While we're on the topic of Mike Raper's kitbashes, I have a few more pics of those lying around that I painted. Mike does great work. His casted minis for ADB are good, but his one-off kitbashes are even better (probably because they don't have to survive the casting process).

Here's the Hydran GAL, which I saw some others had done (The Battlestar: Hydraxia as it were...):

These are a kitbashed Gorn BB and Rom DMH. The DMH doesn't really stand out until you put it next to a FH or SPA mini and see how much bigger it is. The main difference on Mike's kitbashed BB and the production one is, of course, the engines - they're a separate piece, instead of molded on.

Image

The DMH was painted before I switched over to my new, silver-scheme for Roms, but then, I still have plenty of "green" Roms anyway.

Some other stuff

Post by Brigman »

Here's some other stuff I already have uploaded, figured I might as well share it!

The first is my Juggernaut. This was the larger of the two kits SVC sold; sadly, no longer in production. Next to it, for scale, is one of my old "sky blue" NCL minis.

And here's a closer view:

Here's some of my Kzinti; the insignia are hand-painted.

More recent work, here are my (re-)painted Andros. My original Andros were an odd green that looked good on the table, but always photographed as this odd 1957 Buick blue-green, so I redid them with the dark-green scheme I use for my Babylon 5 Dilgar.

Some monsters - the Space Dragon (not the best photo, but all I have handy) - used a Ral Partha Wyvern fig for this:

And the Moray Eel:

Something for monsters to munch on, my Mobile Base mini:

Some Feds:

And in closing, of course, some Gorn!

About 99% of the paint I use is Citadel Colour from Games Workshop. For the Kzin, I use Blood Red as a base coat, then wash it with a diluted Scab Red and let gravity do the rest. I dilute it so that the base coat shows through on the "raised" areas while the wash sinks in to the grooves and lower areas.

And thanks!

For some reason, the mobile base is my favorite. All the minis look great, but to me the base kind of gives the feeling of desperation and exhaustion. It really stands out because of color scheme.

Yeah, I like the Mobile Base as well. Looks kind of utilitarian and no-nonsense. Boltgun Metal drybrushed over black, I'm guessing?

Thanks guys. The poor lonely MB. Unloved and soon to be eaten, but yeah. Fun to paint.

I didn't want to paint a "racial" color because, unlike BATS, I didn't intend to buy one for each race. So I went with something sort of "generic".

It was base-coated in Bolt Gun Metal, washed with diluted Black Ink, and then drybrushed with Mithril Silver. The modules were Beaten Copper with, I think, a wash in Flesh Wash brown ink.
