Drones and Plasmas now available!

Post by mjwest »

As requested by popular demand, ADB presents two items to its line of miniatures: Drones and Plasmas. No longer do you have to use counters for these items, but instead you can now use scale miniatures!

Mine will be painted with aq nice terra cotta base, and then high-lighted with multiple lighter hues of red... orange... and finally yellow. Then the whole will receive a "magic wash" of laquer red to blend the hues together... followed by a very fine dry-brushing with a 1:1 mix of yellow:ivory.

And that's just the drones!
Actually, the drones will be painted in the racial counter colors...
Fed drones will be blue with black trim
Klingon drones will be black with white trim
Kzinti drones will be white with black trim... etc.

I was leaning to painting the drones in traditional empire-colors (remember Tony, Jean said "racial" is an old term). However, my main opponent is obessed with Klingons and also convinced red is the only color appropriate to warriors. Red wipe-off pen, red turn/slip counters, etc., etc...

At this point, I'm used to red for Klingon, due to staring at it so much. I might go with that for the Klingon drones. We'll see.

Plasmas I was thinking of doing in different colors to help differentiate the sizes.

I'm thinking "bigger gets hotter" (or some other technobabble silliness), so Plasma-R would be white with blue drybrushing, Plasma-S would be orange with white drybrushing, and Plasma-F would be red with orange drybrushing.

You could go with the GW axoim, "Red Onz Go Fatsa!" and paint some speed 32 drones in red, then the majority of he speed 24 drones could be orange, and a smatering of slow (speed 8) drones done in yellow...

Or use a red base for type-R's...
A saffon base for type-S's...
A green base for type-G's...
anda fuschia base for type-F's!

Fuschia would be close enough for her.

I need to dig out and photo the minis I've done for her:

A metallic pink Eldar Phantom Titan with gold and silver trim.
A sqaud of pink/red Sisters of Battle... errr, Mary Kay consultants with a pink Cadillac... ummm, rhino APC.
A 1:285 scale Formula 1 racer in Fuschia and Purple.
A pink/purple Madcat 'mech.
etc...

Tony, I would have thought that a candy apple red Rhino would have looked goood!

Gray Primer, 1 coat of gold, then 5 to 7 coats of the clear candied apple. Would not even have to hit it with a top coat except to protect the color coat! Probably thought they would be mistaken for demonettes of Khorne, right?

Oh, and put chrome wheels on the shiny black tracks...and maybe a McQuires sticker on the back quarter panel?

You know... If I still played 40K - that would be a great idea. In fact, if GW was not so danged expensive, I might be tempted to buy one just to "pimp"...

Now all I need is to wait for the Omega box to be ready, and I can get some tachyon missiles and HEATs to match!

And thankfully, the Omega 5 box art gives a good idea of what kind of scheme might work for those handy tachyon missiles...

Not sure about HEATs, though. (They'd all be the same size, but I'm thinking of painting some of them in one colour as standard HEAT warheads, and in a second colour as the faster Accentuated torpedoes.)
