Warp Speeds in FC

Post by Dan Ibekwe »

Just a bit of background 'fluff'.

Could these be made as simple as Base Speed 8 = Warp 1, Base Speed 16 = Warp 2 and Base Speed 24 = Warp 3?

The logarithmic scale used in SFB makes sense in 'canon' terms, but gives me a headache when I try to use it.

I can see where you're coming from. It can be hard at times to think in terms of "warp 2.88", and FC is supposed to simplify and streamline things.

Other than revising the whole system, the problem I can see with that is what is speed 32? Tactical warp ends at warp 3.2 (now that might be convenient with the definition of the warp scale and game scale).

Plus, warp 2 in all of Star trek isn't just twice warp 1.

On a small note, I think the currently defined scale is power law, not logarithmic.

In the oldest gospels, warp is cube light.

Warp 1 = speed of light

Warp 2 = 2x2x2 the speed of light (8 times the speed of light)

Warp 3 = 3x3x3 (27 times) the speed of light
