Confessions of a plasma addict
Hi, my name is Cactus Wren and I'm a plasma addict. My problem is I can't decide which I like best-Gorn or Romulans. Any suggestions?
My name is Krellex, and I, too am a plasma addict.
It's Rommies for my first choice, Gorns are a great second pick
Simple question: Do you use the cloak?
If you use cloak and like to use cloak, then Romulan is your choice.
If you don't use cloak, even if you have it, you might as well not pay for it. Take Gorn. As compensation for dropping the cloak and adopting scales, you get to use the Carronade.
There you go: your choice.

I like the Romulans because of the challange of cloaking tactics. I'm just not that great at it. I've read other posts concerning cloaking tactics and I'm still not convinced if cloaking is worth all the problems. (This topic could probably be addressed in another thread)
I like the Gorn because they seem to be the 'plasma professionals'. They even have a plasma tactic named after them-Gorn Anchor. The problem I have with them is the manuverability.
Could someone suggest or refer me to cloaking/plasma tactics and Gorn manuverability/general tactics.

How can you have a problem with Gorn maneuverability? They don't have any, so there is nothing to have a problem with!Cactus Wren wrote:I like the Gorn because they seem to be the 'plasma professionals'. Well, the ISC have the same maneuverability problem as the Gorn. So, if that prevents you from enjoying the Gorn, it will affect your enjoyment of the ISC.
As for the ships, I expect to see DN, CA, CS, CL, DD, FF. With the CC and CF as bonus ships. Oh, and the BB. This would match the same lineup as other empires when they are introduced, so it would seem reasonable. No promises, of course, as this is all yet to be hashed out. But that is probably the starting point for the discussions.
Note that the CC, CA, DD, and FF are all available on the ISC Ships page on the Commander's Circle. In addition, the CL/CS was done in a Captain's Log.

Who in the world are the Souldra?
The Gorn are probably in my top 3 for enjoyment factor although I suffer in Plasma skill. The Romulans are even more difficult.
In a game for money, I'd take the Feds. Straight, and too the point.

The Souldra are one of the various empires in the Omega Sector. Omega sector can be better explained by Barry or Gary, but it is basically an "area" as large as the "classic" area, but with a wider variety of empires and species and much more fluid history.
The Omega empires are highly unlikely to be moved into Federation Commander anytime soon, though there is at least one discussion on this board that discusses such a translation.

There are a lot of races that are in SFB that are not in FC... yet... and hopefully someday.
Of these the following use plasma.
1) Trobrin
2) Souldra
3) Probr
4) Branthadan
5) Allunda
6) Eneen
7) Peladine
And there are a couple of the simulator races and trianglum galaxy races that use plasma.
Of all of the above mentioned races, only the Peladine use the same type of plasma as everybody else. All of the other races use a "plasma" style weapon.
The LMC and Omega races provide a huge variety and there are mixed feelings about adding them to FC...
I'm from the camp that if you simplified the rules for those races, they would be quite acceptable to FC. Of course, what those simplifications would entail is another debate.
And a lot of people would be against complicating FC by adding additional races. On the other hand, you wouldn't have to use them, so why not?
