Well, Heck! If that's the only stipulation - put a check in the mail for $99. I'll make you a one-off, super-detailed FRD of your very own and mail it to you.djdood wrote:If the heat-resistant resin works out, that would be super cool.
I'd certainly be interested in at least one FRD, and I'm not worried about final-price, as long as it isn't something in triple-digits.

Hmmpff, grumble, and hurumph.
I can do one for myself, no problem, and you know it. Wiseacre.
I just wanted it out there that if this turned into some kind of "short run" thing with a higher price tag (like the resin Juggies), I wouldn't be put off by a realistic price.
For me, realistic for an admittedly niche mini like an FRD (of which I would only need one) would be $30-60. That's is in-line with small 1/2500 resin "garage kit" Trek models I've bought. More than that and the ease of not doing it myself gets outweighed by stinginess.

Wiseacre... who you calling a wiseacre?8)
I hope you enjoy the totally hopeless PD: Federation fighter jockey sample character - Will "DeeJay" McCammon!
Although I am hoping for something a little less "short-run" than the resin Juggernauts, and a bit cheaper too.
I'm envisioning one in each racial, err.. ummm Imperial color scheme. Kinda hard to do that at 50 bucks a pop!

Considering that you only need one.
Well, I didn't get it finished this evening like I thought I would, but I did get a majority of the structure completed. I'm going to lengthen it a tad, like say 0.75 inches, because as it is, it is wider than it is long, and I don't like those proportions in the slightest.

Ho-kay, I finally finished the *new* FRD pattern. As before, it fits my C8 dreadnaught and has all the features of the SSD(except for the corner weapons and impulse engines. D'oh! I need to go back and add those).
Whereas the older one barely contained my C8, the new one is now much more boxy and is bigger than the previous pattern, and it is also more heavy-duty in appearance. There is also still a hint of the old octagonal shape, but it is still a big box and will likely pass the test.

Doing a bit of thread-necromancy here, but it's all to avoid creating a new one.
I wanted to point people to THIS thread on the starshipmodeler.com board, where MillenniumFalsehood has been displaying his incredible work building up a Romulan WarBird vacuform kit.
He's engineered and assembled working landing gear for it, using brass rod, etc., and it's all powered by RC airplane actuators.
Truly phenomenal workmanship and well worth your time to go and see.
