Well, If you haven't figured out from previous posts... I also recommend Mark's decals.
While I like doing the "fiddly-bitz" by hand on most races ships - The white base color of the Federation and the fineness of the striping and windows makes these units very unforgiving of mistakes... and lord knows, I make enough of them that require touch-ups. most of my Federation ships have had the decal treatment, although i only use the decals for the engine pennants, the windows, and the hull name / numbers. Everything else I try to paint by hand.
Although I going to have to order a bunch (100 or more) of the Lyran clan symbols for my two Lyran fleets.
