Scoutdad's Minis projects (was latest works in progress)

Post by Scoutdad »

Here's my latest ongoing project:

Image
Kzinti attrition units on the workbench...

Image
Kzinti TAAS fighters, Kzinti Needle PFs, and Kzinti Shuttlecraft

It may take a while to finish these as they are fill-in between a couple of special commissions (photos later) and a couple of additional masters; but I'll post updates as work progresses.

Yeah, I'm quite proud of those. I wish I had two more flotillas worth, but you make so with what you have.

I need to plan a huge PF battle someday, just so I can break out all the PFs (and psuedo-PF's) I've got.

There's actually two more floating around somewhere... one pewter and one of the small resins ones.

I'm working on a deal to obtain one of he large resin ones, but it still hasn't come through yet.

No. I lucked into several blisters of original TFG PFs on ebay a couple years ago.
I have 2 flotillas of Kzinti...
2 flotillas of Klingon...
3 flotillas of 8 Lyrans...
(6 standard, one leader, and one scout variant in each flotilla)
3 flotillas of 8 Hydrans...
(6 standard, one leader, and one scout variant in each flotilla)

and then I have 2 flotillas of elite scale Warbirds I use as Romulan Centurian PFs...
2 flotillas worth of elite Skyhawks that I use as Romulan Starhawk PFs...
2 flotillas of elite Tholians...
2 flotillas of elite Orions...

I'm glad those Kzinti PF's I traded you went to such a good home and are going to see a game-table someday (unlike at mine). They are looking good, even just in basecoat.

Do you often do mini work in bare feet? Must be a Southern-boy thing... :P

Very impressive. How are you going to base the PFs? I've had some for years and never found a good solution.

djdood beat me to it about the lack of footwear :D

PF basing:
Most of the current crop of PFs is mounted on custom made bases... I'll post photos later - so these will probably be done the same way.

Feets in the photo:
I didn't even realize that... but leave it to Will to notice!
It's a southern thing. As soon as we get home from work, the shoes come off.
It comes from having to wear hand-me-down shoes when we were young and walked five miles each way to school... all of it uphill... in hte snow, year round...

Workbench:
Funny that... most of the photos I've taken of the stuff in progress show hints of whats to come.

Lucky indeed! Can't wait to see more of the PFs.

OK... I had to go ahead and finish one TAAS, just to verify that my desired color scheme would be satisfactory:

Just a quick and dirty job. This one'll probably be dipped and redone and the others will be completed more carefully. But the color test was sucessful.

Having never used mini's in playing SFB or FC, how do you all handle stacking?

That is the main problem with using miniatures in a wargame like this, you can't stack. We usually jut pull one of the minis off the table and move it a good distance away on the board leaving it the correct facing.
