I've had the F&E boxed set for years but have never played it.

We play on a regular basis in Murfreesboro. Typically, one Saturday a month for about 10 or so hours a day.
Since Plasmaboy joined the Army, we're short a Romulan player. You're welcome to drive up and join us!

Failing that, there's always Cyberboard for play by email and VASSAL for semi-face-to-face play.
And, one of our group is part of the design team for the "official" ADB sanctioned Fed & Empire Online. It's not ready for release yet... but hopefully sometime this century!

I've played F&E once and that was in 1994. I couldn't find enough people to play it until that day. It was awesome! I had a lot of the stuff, but over the years I have not been able to keep up. Yesterday I found out that my last purchase from the game store on anything was 12.13.1995 the store owner said that was too long and it was time to fix that. I got like one F&E Expansion pack but none of the rest. I didn't realize that there were several now. I use the counters from that interchangeably with SFB.

I have a question that perhaps someone could answer.

I have a copy of Federation and Empire and the copyright on the
rules and box is 1986. The counters (and most of the game)
are in almost mint condition.

If I bought the new F&E 2010 could I still use my old F&E 1986
counters with the new game as reinforcements?
Or have the counters changed radically since then?

Thanks!

99.9999 percent of the counters can be used. I think there werre only one or two counters that had values that changed.

I still have the counters from 4 or 5 of the 1986 boxed sets in my collection of counters and other than the worn finish, you can't tell them from newer ones.

One think about "dates" in F&E.

The rulebooks are dated 1986, 1990, 1991, 2000, 2010.

The maps were done in 1986 and done over in 1991.

The boxes changed in 1991 and in 2000.

The charts are dated 1986, 1990, and 2000.

The counters were done numerous times, at least in 1986, 1990, 1999, 2004, 2010.

Thanks for the info! I will be sure to screen the old counters to be sure
I don't bring any obsolete values into the new game.

Hey, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in the area interested in it. I've been checking the Games Plus site daily waiting to see if they've gotten it yet.

I'm starting to play F&E online using that excellent Vassal Module ADB allowed to be released.

It's actually a perfect fit for the game. The trouble I (and I'm sure quite a few others) have with box game is 'all' those counters to keep track of. The Vassal module makes setup a brezze by comparison. Wildfire67 (the guy I was playing against) and I were joking that this would rock on a projection table. :)

So, if you all are interested in playing online, drop me a line sometime. I'm on SFBOL often so see ya there.

Wait until you see the "official" F&E Online system that is crrently in beta test. If you think VASSAL is good, you'll be blown away by this one...
