Hydran Stinger Miniatures

Post by Scoutdad »

Well, one of the members of Battlegroup Murfreesboro (and our local Hydran commander) created some Stinger miniatures. They were originally intended for use in our SFB games, but with the release of Booster Zero... and the impending release of FC: Distant Kingdoms, they can now be used for Federation Commander as well.

He was nice enough to give me the first 24 or so he cast. I finished painting the first batch tonight. I took a few photos of them and uploaded them to my website. Please take a look and offer comments or suggestions... :)

I'd say "Awww, cute!", if I wasn't afraid of the gatlings those things pack.

That's what my wife did say, "Aww, those are cute!" But she's never seen the swiss-cheesed hull of a Klingon D7 after an Alpha Strike by a squadron of fusion amed Stingers...

Get me some of them that Reaper can cast and I'll put them into production.

Steve, spoke witht he caster this evening and he's hard at work on the next batch. We are going to cherrypick the best ones and bring them to you at Origins. How many would you like... 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, or even more?

They are rather small, so I'd suggest possibly thinking about 6 or 9 to a pack... but ultimately it'll be your decision... along with input from Reaper.

Oh Well! At least, there'll be plenty of mis-casts and factory seconds for me to use...... mwahahaha

Hmmm... maybe we'll finally see "the chair" mini stand.

Good question.

Steve, did you ever find a supplier for chair-type miniature stands? If not, we have been kicking around a couple of differnet ideas for producing some. We could make upa few proto-types and bring them to Origins for you to review.

JMT: See the link below

"Chair Stands"

They are called by several names, chair stands, dice bases, unit bases, etc. Basically, it's a miniature stand with a dice shaped depression in the base itself. The die can be used to represent many things:
1) You can put one figure on the base and use the die to designate the actual number of fighters / drones / plasma torps / PF's / etc present in that grouping.
2) You can use the die to designate current damage level
3) You can use the die to designate speed (not very useful in FC, but of great benefit in other games)

Those are only a few of the possible uses for a "chair" stand. There are a gazillion other uses possible.

I was actually referring to a similar (but different IIRC) concept that SVC has teased about on the other board. But, yeah it is something along those lines that holds multiple small craft/missiles on one base and can be incremented.

Now I remember the ones your talking about. I hex base with 6-individual mounting pins, one at each of the 6 the apexes. Drones / Plasmas / Fighters / Shuttles / PF's / etc. could be placed on the mounting pins in any number from 1 to 6.

Or, taken the other way... drones / shuttles / plasmas / PF's / etc could be cast with mounting lugs/pins underneath and the base could have receiving holes instead. Any number of items could be inseted into the holes... and the number could even be changed during play, if the holes and mounting pins were constructed properly.
