First light on War & Peace

Post by Dan Ibekwe »

Well, I've just ordered my copy, now the waiting begins.

To those fortunate enough to obtain a copy at Origins...what do you think? Any surprises?

Are there Andro SatBases? ISC tugs? Vudar Ion Storm Generators?

Pray tell...

The Andro rules for systems and weapons are about 8 pages long. We haven't played them yet. We have played ISC a couple of times before and the Vudar should be easy enough to pick up.

I haven't read all the Andro rules yet, but we plan to play ISC(Burt) vs Andro(Me) pretty soon.

Steve Cole posted some snippets of rules in the W&P thread on The Other Board. Not all of them but quite a lot.

What I want to know is what ships were in War & Peace? Particularly Andromedans? I think there was the Intruder, Conquistador, Python, Mamba and Cobra, with the Dominator in a booster. No Viper. (Does anyone think it's weird that the Viper looks like Cylon? )

I've ordered it too, and am waiting for it & Cap Log #41 with bated breath. If I hold my breath much longer I'll look like an Andorian. :D

Ordered W&P along with the associated trio of boosters. This way I know I'll get the Dominator along with the ISC and Vudar CCs. I've never played the Vudar (I stopped playing SFB right about the time I saw their DW in a Captain's Log), but I've enjoyed the others in the past. Vudar might be fun too with the IPG being like nothing else in the game right now.

I wouldn't let the Drex hear you say that about the Viper, Terry!

I'm waiting for my FLGS to get copies of the book, the boosters, and the other book (R12) too.

*tries to wait patiently...*

You'll probably get yours before I do. I have asked my FLGS to get it for me, along with the boosters, so, well, you know what it's like in the UK waiting for stuff. However, Esdevium, the UK suppliers for ADB products, should be getting some in pretty soon I'm told. So I'm not too worried :)

The Andromedan Bonus ships are: DOM, PYT

More random questions:

1. How many scenarios?
2. Is the SatB published for FC anywhere, or do they just adapt a Galactic-style mobile base?
3. Were there any changes to the PPD or IPG rules from those previously published in the Reference Rules?

1. Seven.

2. No and no. I imagine the SatB will be published in Communique, then in an appropriate Attack module in the future. That is a good request.

I assume the BATS was included instead of the SatB, as the SatB is going to die quickly and often. The BATS is a LOT more survivable, and makes the fight tougher.

BTW, don't forget that you can effectively make your own SatB by simply using a single "disk" from the BATS.

3. No. The IPG rules were reformatted from what is seen in the Reference Rulebook to make (5R4) flow better. However, none of the actual mechanics were changed. And, except for the elimination of the "proximity" function, the ion cannon rules are the same, too.

I wonder if I could adapt a version of the Base Busters scenario to handle an Andromedan BATS. Or just play Battlestation K3 with an Andromedan defender.

I assume you mean a SatB, as Base Busters already has a BATS.

For the SatB scenario, the best bet is to restrict the attackers to a single ship of any size. Maybe make it so that there is bidding on how small to make the attacker, or how much support the defender gets. Or make a single war cruiser "attacker" that must survive for X turns while getting pounded by the base and defenders while reinforcements come to finish off the base.

Lots of different ways. But the big thing is to make the attacker a single ship, at least to start, to reflect how the bases were continuously hunted down. Otherwise it is just a repeat of Base Busters with a smaller attacking force.

Ah, so the Base Busters scenario from C2 was changed from a SatB to a BATS then?

Can you tell me the titles of the scenarios included?
