Updating Commander's Edition

Post by Czuhars »

Hi all,

After 20 years I'm getting back into SFB. I've got my old Commander's Edition, and i'd like to know how much has changed in the rules from then til now. How much errata is there, and where can I find a good collection specific to the CE?

Thanks all, and I look forward to talking with you all.

Commanders edition was superceded by the Captains Edition... aka Doomsday Edition...

The entire rulebook was reorganized and rewritten. This was done to close loopholes, explain various interactions and to reduce future errata.

The best way to update would be to purchase the SFB Master Rulebook, found HERE!

You can use your existing maps, counters and SSDs with the Master Rulebook.

Does this apply scoutdad?

Nevermind, it doesnt apply to the master rulebook.

And mj, I found a word document that has this as the first paragraph. Was it produced by ADB and if so, I cant find a link to it.

"STAR FLEET UNIVERSE UPDATE LIST
========================================
Many players have asked us to provide them with a list of what products have been updated, and how extensively they were revised. There is no good way to define the extent of revisions, but if you consult the on-line errata sheets you will get a good idea of what changes were fixed and how much you do or do not need the fixed versions. LIST REVISED 27 FEB 06. "

This is the link to the Product Update List: http://www.starfleetgames.com/prod_update.shtml

I found it via the Master Index here: http://www.starfleetgames.com/masterindex.shtml

(Amazing what stuff is there!)

Hope that helps.

Thanks Jean. I was looking under Star Fleet Universe Update List. And the posted list is more up to date.

Thanks. I my just have to support ADB and buy a new copy of Captain's Edition rather than piece-meal an older edition.

I've been using the Cadet's Handbook to get up to speed which has helped.

The easiest way to update your Commander's Edition stuff is to do this:
- Buy the Master Rulebook.
- Buy (as spare parts) the following SSD books: Basic Set, Advanced Missions, C1, C2.

That will be about $100, but is probably the most effective way to update what you have to Captain's Edition. Note that you will still be "missing" some things (like all of the updated scenarios). But this gives you the new rules and the majority of SSDs that you will be missing. Then use your old Commander's Edition scenarios, plus the maps and counters you already have.

The only other thing you might want to do (if you need/want the ships) is buy the SSD books for Modules R2-R4. These are the "other" ships that were in Commander's Edition. Everything from R5+, C3+, and the rest, are all new to Captain's Edition.
