Shadows Under Counters

Just renewed my subscription and updated to the latest version. I'm curious about the shadows for the counters. Are they new? I don't remember them being there before (although maybe they were and I just didn't notice them). Is there a way to turn them off (I didn't see an option for them)?

Yes, they are new. The idea is to add a more realistic look to the counters.
