Nah. It's all in good fun. I'd hate to force anyone to do something to be able to play this game.

Besides, you've given me an idea.

I am going to offer a fully painted miniature of the winning players original ship as a grand prize for winning.

Now to hope that the winner selcts a ship that already has a miniature so I'm not forced to scratch-build a one off in addition to painting it!

Got player 11's ship this morning. Another duplication.

That leaves 5. 4 or those have responded to their emails and let me know that they'll finish their selection before Sunday.
That means we should be able to start on 11/8!

If you just want to get a jump on things, everyone can do energy Allocation for their Ship for Turn 1 and have it ready to submit when the word is given.

To maintain consistency, here's the map set-up:
Fixed map
42 x 30 hexes
The top name in the pairings will start in Hex 1701, facing at their discretion.
The bottom name will start in hex 2630, facing at their discretion.

Should it be roughly 0101 and 4230 as the starting points for the ships? I thought this was a 42X30 board. Or is it intended that we start relatively close to each other?

PBEM takes a while to complete a game, so a closer start gets into the action quicker.

There are a few orions, just out of interest does the orion have to keep the same weapoon mounts throughout, or does he get to change for each game?

I'm assuming the same else they would likely gain a somewhat unfair edge tweaking weapons to suit opponent, but better check to be sure.

All ships with option mounts must keep the same load-out throughout the series to prevent said unfair advantage...

Could get a little messy when it's 8 ships vs 8 ships in the finals...

8 versus 8 is gonna get messy anyway.

Since we've not heard from fathertaylor, we are going with Killerjoe1968 as player #1 in game FC0009.

this game will be killerjoe1968 flying a Hydran Mongol plus 5 Stingers
versus
alex knight flying a WYn War Cruiser with Phaser-1s in both option mounts

Just a brief update:

After the holiday delay, all 8 games seem to be running again (some faster than others).
Three of the games are still in the Turn 1, Impulse 1.4 stage; while the other 5 are somewhere between Impulse 5 and 8.
I don't think any of them have quite reached Turn 2 yet, although one had... til one of the players pointed out that I missed an obvious BREAK condition on Turn 1.6.2 ( ) and we had to reset to that point and go again.

I (and hopefully the other two moderators) will make an effort to post updates so everyone can see the current status of all the games. That way, everyone can be a part of the fun!

Next question, with the relative nearness of the starting positions - some of the round one games will end rather quickly. This leads to round two:

How do we do round two? We have two choices...
1) We wait until all eight games are finished and then determine the match-ups completely randomly.
or...
2) We match up the winners ofhte 1st and 2nd games completed, then the 3rd and 4th games, followed by 5th/6th and 7th/8th.

Option one is truly random but option two keeps everyone playing.
What's your pleasure???
