Battleship Attack: Squadron and Border boxes

Post by jmt »

Now that I've got the FC:BA, I was wondering when the Squadron and Border boxes would be released.

Will they be out in time for GenCon?

SVC mentioned on the other site that the sculptor who's been having the family medical issues was also responsible for the Gorn Battleship. I don't know if he's responsible for producing any other miniatures, but the fact that the one won't be available right away means that others will probably be delayed as well.

Last I heard was that the sculptor had finished the Seltorians and was working on the "missing" battleships and dreadnoughts.

Got an Email today from the sculptor saying that the Seltorians were in the mail. (no jokes, please, about the new starship class called "checks")

Next up are the BBs and DN variants. I need to review his Email with Petrick and give him some focus on what to do first, or whether we can touch any of it without having all of it.

His report:
Almost done (the engines need to be attached and the phaser put on) is the Kzinti BB.
Next is the Gorn BB and Neo-Tholian BB
Then the Neo-Tholian collar for the DNH
For the Klingon C5, Romulan Shrike, Gorn DNL, and Lyran DNL, I have some ideas that I'll send pics for.

My notes on what is coming:
Border Box 6
Starbase EXISTS,
Fed BB EXISTS,
Klingon B10 EXISTS,
Romulan KCN IN THE MAIL,
Kzinti BB SEE ABOVE, ALMOST DONE,
Gorn BB SEE ABOVE, TO BE DONE NEXT,
Neo-Tholian Battleship SEE ABOVE, TO BE DONE NEXT,
Seltorian Hive ship IN THE MAIL

Squadron Box 16
EXISTS: Fed DN, Fed DNL, Kzinti DN,
TO BE DONE: Kzinti DNL, Neo-Tholian DNH (Collar for NDN)

Squadron Box 17
EXISTS: Klingon C8, Lyran DN, Hydran DN
TO BE DONE; Klingon C5, Lyran DNL,

Squadron Box 18
EXISTS: Klingon C8/Rom KC9R, Romulan Condor, Gorn DN, Tholian DPW
TO BE DONE: Romulan Shrike,

After that, PFs and fighters

Will the box include the NDN or just the Collar?

It will include the NDNH, but the only piece we have to MAKE is the collar. We have plenty of NDNs without collars and they come in two pieces.

I'm wondering what the Gorn BB will look like. I'm guessing a DN that's wider and a bit longer.

I haven't seen the SSD sheet yet since my copy won't arrive until next week.

That is correct.

The Gorn Battleship is basically a dreadnought that has had its hull widened. For instance, instead of circular saucers, the "bubbles" on the battleship are ovoid.

Off the top of my head, the distinguishing feature(s) of each ship -

Fed - Four warp engines, with two attached to the saucer instead of the rear hull
Klingon - Two warp engines underneath the boom. Historically in SFB, the only one of these designs that was actually completed. The Klingons also had plans to build a B-11, though nothing ever came of that.
Romulan - basically, a REALLY big Condor. The basic hull design is similar to the Condor, albeit scaled up. The Romulans also had plans to convert a B-10, though in SFB history they never received one (the Klingons only finished two).
Kzinti - Four warp engines, following the standard Kzinti design philosophy
Gorn - A widened dreadnought
Tholian - No Archeo-Tholian; Neo-tholian is similar to other neo-tholian ships, but bigger
Lyran - Following the double-hulled catamaran to triple-hulled trimaran evolution of the cruiser into the dreadnought, the battleship is a four-hulled ship
Hydran - It's a REALLY BIG Paladin dreadnought. It's similar enough that in SFB history there's argument over whether a partially completed hull that the Klingons found after they conquered the homeworld during the General War was the Hydran's attempt to build a Monarch-class battleship, or just another Paladin dreadnought that hadn't been completed.
Orion - The Orions get a dreadnought instead. It follows standard Orion design philosophy, but scaled up to dreadnought size.
WYN - After seeing what they did with just freighters, police ships, and a Lyran Destroyer, do you REALLY want them to have a battleship?
Andromedan - A really big Andromedan mothership. One was found under construction in the LMC following Operation Unity.

junior - "Tholian - No Archeo-Tholian"

Actually there was the really cool, never-built, not-real, "don't try and act like it was", one that Mike Raper came up with (IIRC). I think it was in Stellar Shadows. It was a bunch (8, I think) PC hulls welded together. Whacky.

It was 6 PC hulls welded together. Take an Archeo-Tholian DN and add another PC to the end of each wing. I built one soon after SSJ #2 was released.

Kzinti and Lyran BB

Post by John Schneder II »

Actually, the Kzinti BB (had it been made in the SFB universe) retained the three engines of the dreadnought, although much bigger. The hull behind the 'head' was thicker and deeper as well.

The Lyran BB used an extra-wide center hull, so it stayed a trimaran ship (but the center section was much wider). It also had four engines rather than the DN's three.

At least that was how I sculpted them. 8)
