Sensors and bases

Post by Nerroth »

Hi.

With RRB6a, bases now have their special sensor suites from SFB ported over into "vanilla" FC.

My question is this; what kind of tactical implications will these sensor suites have (be they mounted on the "standard" Alpha bases, or the various Andromedan types) when it comes to playing out base assaults?

My understanding is that adding special sensors to bases is somewhat optional (as in, if you are electing to play a game with special sensors you can add them to bases; if not, then don't add them).

"(5S7) BASES: In game systems that use special sensors and electronic warfare, these are key elements of bases."

This could just be my incorrect interpretation, however.

Gar1138 is right. If you allow ships with special sensors in your game, then you add them to the bases. If you don't, you don't add them to the bases.

Scouts and so on are still optional.

I thought I read somewhere that there were no optional rules in FC?

I think I was wrong. It looks like the rules are for the Fed Scout, and it says more complete rules will be in BoM.

Then, under bases it says... "BASES: ... Updating Ship Cards: Add sensors to
bases (they don’t replace anything, they are additions) as follows: ..."

I think they are supposed to be a permanent addition.

I will submit the following for Communique #63 ...

Q: With the introduction of special sensors (5S) and rule (5S7) describing special sensors on bases, is it now expected that all bases have special sensors as a general rule?
A: Not really. They are really provided for when special sensors are used by the attacking force. So, if the attackers have special sensors, then the base should also use them. If no other special sensor equipped units are present, then the bases are simply used as is on the ship card.

So, think of (5S7) as providing a balance factor, not as a hard new rule applied in all cases.

OK, they are not optional. Consider them conditional ...
