Weapons Cards?

Post by Mike »

Does anyone else think that weapon cards that could be laid down to announce fire would be helpful in FC?

Here is the gist of the idea:

A player would have a weapon card for each weapon on his/her ship(s). As fire is announced, the appropriate cards are laid down next to the target ship card(s). Then, when fire is resolved, there is no question about what weapons were announced to be fired.

Yes, it would potentially make for a lot of weapon cards.

No, it would not need to be used all the time.

Voted no. In the FtF FC games I've played, this has never been an issue.

Why not make your own, if you feel the need?

There are individuals I've played that really need that type thing forced on them --

Amazing that they roll their dice -- then say I want to also fire this or that --

We have locally found that having a small white board for each player is great for working up declared fire and keeping track of it.

The cards idea is interesting. It would certainly be a nice reminder of what you have left to fire on a given turn. However, as someone above has noted, they are easy enough to work up on your own just like Baseline Speed cards.

I voted no.
Too many variables to make it a worthwhile investment of ADB's time.

Some ships have 10 phasers and 2 torpedoes...
Some have 6 torpedoes, 6 pahsers, and drone racks...

How many cards would be in a set? Who would decide this number or that? And it's never been an issue in any of our games; but if it came down to it - I can make my own very easily.

A sheet of Avery Business Card paper will do 10 cards... that's a good place to start (and the Avery business card pages were what the original MITS cards were printed on...)

I voted no

I would rather have damage allocation cards than weapon cards.

Plus, I just don't think weapon cards can properly handled all of the weapon fire/launch variations. If they came in a set I would most likely never use them.

I voted No, because we already point our on the ship card weapon used the weapon we declare firing.

I understand they could have a use for very large battle when you have trouble remembering who you shoot at exactly but even we can still write the number down.

I voted yes, but only because I had to vote one way or the other to get the computer to show me the result.

Seriously, however, this is a fairly easy thing to do, just buy some sheets of business card punch stock and print up whatever set your favorite ship needs. We could do them for you here but in all seriousness, the individual custom thing on a $1 item doesn't seem like a good use of our time.

What I could do is go buy a pack of those blanks, print up standard sheets, and put them on the cart for a dollar and if you want them, you can get them, but I bet you can make your own.

I wonder if you could also just use playing cards. Spades for torpedoes, diamonds for phasers....

Voted no - not sure I see the need as long as the "me too" rules are followed correctly.
