Preventing further brain damage...

Post by Burning Chrome »

Hoping someone here can assist me in locating a scenario that I'm pretty sure I've seen in one my many SFB products, and will undoubtedly find the moment I click on the "submit" button to post this...

I believe the scenario is entitled "Stalking Siegebreaker" and concerns enemy (Kzinti?) pursuit of the D6M Siegebreaker and its escort(s?).

If this scenario does exist, what sourcebook can I find it in and has it transitioned to FC yet?

I recently discovered the D6M shipcard on the website and was flooded by SFB campaign memories. Coalition fleet vs Alliance fleet and eventually an Alliance BATs with supporting fleet. I commanded the IKV Mangler, (D6M) and I remember the campaign taking months to play due to the scope of the battles and number of players.

Would've made excellent fiction.

Also, on the lower right of the D6M shipcard there is the word "Turn" and the letters "L, C and R". Not sure what those are for?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

The Mauler has multiple firing arcs... i.e., straight ahead and Left/Right. These arcs can be seen in the diagram near the top ofthe ship card.
The L, C, R are used to track which direction the mauler canon is tending towards at the current moment.
I haven't got the rules handy this very moment, but IIRC - there are stipulations regarding how quickly one can convert from L to R and then back again, so having a device for keeping track is useful.

I don't know about the scenario you mentioned. However, the Mauler rules for FC can be found in Communique 18 in the Commander's Circle here: http://www.starfleetgames.com/federatio ... %20Circle/

Looks like the rules are also available in the Playtest Materials section as well.

Thanks for the info guys!

I found the scenario in Captains Log 16.

D6M and D5K trying to escape enemy territory pursued by a Kzinti Needle Flotilla.

Tough scenario, but will require some changes for use until PFs become a reality in Fed Com.

I'd like to see the Mauler become standard in Fed Com, but BoM would be just as acceptable.

Guess I'll have to play a few games to try it out. :D

It's kind of fun to take old SFB scenarios and see if you can make them work in FC, especially the ones that use unusual ships or weapons.

Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I don't see why using PFs in FC is such a difficult thing to do. The SSDs, I mean, "ship cards," aren't difficult to make. The rules are the same. Go for it and let us know how it turns out.

There in lies the problem for me...no rules or PF SSDs to work with. Yet.

My initial memory of the "Stalking Siegebreaker" scenario was recalling Kzinti frigates or police ships as the original pursuers. Some thing small and relatively harmless by itself, but potentially dangerous in numbers. PFs make even more sense in that regard.

Another interesting twist in transitioning this to FC is no Shock for the mauler, correct?

Yes, no shock in FC so far. There are firing restrictions on ships which normally have shock effects (e.g. Federation BCJ with 6 photons).
