Which Hellbore/ESG interaction rule should I use?

I am looking at Distant Armada at Origins 2011 and I noticed that the Hellbore/ESG interaction is described two different ways:

1) In the Core Rules Modifications section it says:

"For each ESG on a starship, its shield rating is treated as one lower (minimum zero) for purposes of determining hellbore impact dice."

2) In the Weapons section it says:

"For Each ESG on starship, its shield ratings is treated as one higher (maximum 5) for purposes of defending against hellbore cannons."

Which one is correct?

(2) is correct. Looks like (1) was overlooked in a final proofread.
