Fast Drones Point Increase

I am pretty sure this has been clarified it elsewhere but I could not find that post.

The new rules state that the option for fast drones (speed 32) would increase the point value of the ship in 0.5 points per drone. So a Kzinti ship with 2 standard drone racks (drones each) would increase the total point value of the ship by a total of 4 points , correct ? I just want to confirm because it seems like an awful small price to pay for such a big advantage.

Pretty sure that is per Drone not Rack. And it is a all or none upgrade. So in you example you are correct it would be 2 Racks x 4 Standard Drones x 0.5 for +4 points to ship.

The upgrade cost is per drone, and it's an all or nothing upgrade.

Yes, so a typical Kzinti ship with four racks pays 0.5 x 4 x 4 = 8 points.
Most Klingons (2 racks) 4 points
Most Feds (one rack with two drones) 1 point.

Does the cost also include fast drone reloads. Ie. You would pay more if you wanted fast reloads. Four extra fast drones two points. Eight four points ,etc. If You do not pay the drone reloads drop in speed.

I suppose you'd have to, otherwise you're effectively getting a load of free upgrades when you reload.

I'd go with your idea about paying extra for additional fast drone reloads and reverting to standard speed after they've been expended (until an official answer appears).

Stepping drone speed down after the first launch unless you write down some where that you have more fast drone reloads really defeats the purpose of a no record keeping game. I would be surprised if that is what the rules intended because it goes against the design philosophy of the game. I am pretty sure that once they are fast then even the reloads are fast.

I believe that the increase premium includes all reloads. (I seem to recall that being asked before.)

In SFB, at least, you pay only for the rack drones and reloads are free. By the time fast drones come out, each ship has two sets of reloads. It'd have to be a very long FC game before you went through three full sets of rack loads.

unless I'm missing something, the cost speciFically says per "each drone". So the way I'm reading the rule, you could buy 2 fast drones for a each kizinti rack and buy 2 medium speed drones per rack. You could then buy just 2 fast reloads. This would add 5 points to a kizinti cruiser rather than 8 points. The rule says nothing about filling the entire rack with fast drones.

Nicole, there have been previous rulings that it is all or nothing. So a Zin does pay 8 points for fast drones in all racks with free reloads.
