Webs, Drones and Snares (oh my!)

Post by Sneaky Scot »

A Tholian CA is moving slowly through a web hex, when the nasty old Klingons launch drones, which move into the web hex containing the CA.

Do the drones impact when they enter the web hex containing the ship? Perhaps they are trapped in the web and don't impact?

Assuming they do impact, and strike the #3 shield. Can the CA use a Web Snare to defend itself when it is already in a web hex?

Yes they impact and as far as i can tell yes you can use a snare, there is no rule preventing you from using it just because you are in a web hex.

I can answer the first part. The night SVC stopped at our house, we were playing a game in asteroids and the same question came up.

That started the web / drone and asteroid / drone discussion. According to Steve, if the drone enters the asteroid field or web hex that it's target is in... it impacts the target before it "encounters" the terrain feature.

Now as to snares in a web hex... hmmm... I'm inclined to say no as you cannot lay a web in an existing web hex, but let's let MJWest answer.

My understanding of defensive fire actions:

Like ADD/Phaser/Tractor, Web Snare would be an action that takes place at 1 hex ---
This is due to the way the Impulse system is set up in FC ---

The Web Snare would be firing out of the web hex, not in the web hex ---

The answers to the first question are all correct. A seeking weapon will impact its target before interacting with any terrain features, including web.

For the second question, yes, the snares will work. The web snare in Federation Commander is a simplification and abstraction of the system. Just go with it. If necessary, consider it a destructive shot (like a mini web fist) rather than a spot of web. But it will work.

OK. I can buy that.

True Fed Commander. Simple, elegant and (where necessary) refuses to be dictated to by the SFB precedents. Good stuff :D

Sorry kirbykibble, but my inspiration (if that's the right word) was The Wizard of Oz!
