1/4000 Klingons and 1/7000 Starships

Post by IainMcG »

I was taking pics of my Starline minis for the painting thread, thought I'd snap a few of my Shapeways stuff too. I'll add my 1/7000 fleets at some point over the next few weeks as well. I use the big fellow as a C7 and the smaller pair as D5s.

Nicely done. I have a few of these sitting in the box waiting to be painted.

Did you run into any issues painting the somewhat stepped surface that isn't flat all the time?

I don't think they're 1/4000 though, since the D7 is a LOT larger than the ADB version at 1/3788.

Thanks guys.

Didn't have any bother painting the surface (other than running out of places to hold it :)), as long as your paint isn't too thick it'll get into all the nooks and crannies easily enough. Certainly no more difficulties than painting a Panzer III or similar.

I'm not so sure that they're 1/4000 either, I think the designer was rounding up. They're correct for 1/3788 if you go with the 228m length I've commonly seen quoted for the D7 and looks spot on side-by-side with a Constitution class when compared to images over at the Starfleet Museum http://www.starfleet-museum.org/constitution-d7.jpg (perhaps the SFU variety goes with the ~200m length some sources quote ?).

Quick shot of a 1/7000 D7, consider it a placeholder until I can get some half-decent fleet shots done. Bit of a pain trying to get good shots of such tiny models :)

And one of the Feds for balance. Not a great picture, but good enough to make out the details.
