Earth-Romulan War era Romulan Eagle

Post by Mr_Tricorder »

I'm pretty much done with the basic geometry, but I still need to come up with details like weapons, shuttle bay, and such and I haven't even begun any texture work yet. I felt like creating a sort of segmented look to the hull, partly to distinguish it from the main-era ships and also to give it a more armored look since this is from a time before shields. Also, I wanted to make the warp nacelles look a bit more bulky and clumsy to show their primitiveness but still have a sense of elegance about them that is common to all Romulan ship designs. What do you think so far?

I like the trillobite/king crab look.

Nice. A different take on the ship.

I've had to put this on hold all day yesterday, but managed to pick it up again this evening. I've done some detail modeling for the weapons and created the base for the hull texture. No great bird on the bottom yet, sorry.

I wish there was some way I could add that texture onto my 2400 minis!

Scoutdad - your people need you!

Seriously, if there is a way to provide texture, that would be a top tip. I guess you can get some of the effects by using layers of slightly differing colours, but I'm no expert.

I've actually been thinking about this for a while, one of the ideas I had was to find some sort of a stamp to use to get the paneled look on the hull. I haven't actually tried anything yet.

The best way to obtain that type of texture would be to airbrush the mini a single shade.
Once dry, then cut a template out of acetate or manilla or index card. By holding it against the mini and using a low-pressure on the airbrush - you could get a similar efect.

Best affect I had was on an ME-262 in 1/32 ---

Did the upper half paint and didn't like the color -- so took some paint thinner on cotton ball and tried to remove it -- come out almost perfect with the Luftwaffle style without actually trying for it -- :)

Just finished making the bird for the underside from scratch. I searched through a lot of images to on the internet to try to find one that would work, but ended up trying my hand at making my own instead of ripping someone else off or using the old TOS bird.

I know that feeling.
The best lookign "face" I ever managed to paint on a AD&D mini was a simlar accident.

The mini was alomost finsihed when my grand-daughter decided to help grandpa paint. She grabbed some red paint that was left on the palette and a paint brush and started painted. When her mom returned to the workroom - the head was solid red.
She grabbed a rag and wiped away all of the paint, except what had settled int othe crevices of hte face (eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils). And the pigment shaded the flesh color to a more ruddy shade that was unlike anything else I'd painted to that point.

I added black for pupils and repainted the hair. Beond that, I left it alone.

I really like the upper texture and I REALLY like the eagle. That great bird absolutely would look different from what we saw during the series since this was a considerable time in the past...maybe it looked different on each ship...we just don't know. I love the work you've done here - it looks great! I hope your players enjoy it as much as we have here.

Here are a few more details. I still have yet to do windows, engines, and shuttle bay, but they're coming.

This week has been pretty busy so far, but I've finally managed to finish up this one. What do you think?
