SFM Miniature Wargame Rules !

Post by domingojs23 »

Dear Steve,

I'd love to also see SFM as a miniature wargame rules system. This could also be a great hook to tap into the present wargaming market. Heck, even if it isn't planned at this stage, it wouldn't be hard at all to adjust the SFM boardgame to a minis system. The Ogre board-to-minis conversion is a good example.

It would be great to have stuff like "Codexes" (Codices ?) booklets with unit organization, uniforms, doctrines, etc. of the Marines / Troops of the various SFU nations. I'm already drooling with the possibilities of projecting present-day Marine and other Earth elite units to the SFU future, using 20mm or 15mm-scale figures ! While of course there are the "Federal" SF Marines, the UFP National Guard certainly would have many descendants of contemporary units.

Cheers !

Gary

I'd play it. Heck I'm chomping at the bit to play any starfleet marines! I think the best thing we can all do right now though is to leave Steve alone and let him work on it.

Well Ken Burnside and Crew did a fantastic job on The Jaynes manuals for the Saganami Is. Tactical Simulator (SITS), he would definately be worth sounding out for a series of Seahawk (Osprey) manuals of the Alpha Octant.
I'm wise enough to know that I don't know half as much as I think I know, you know?

I cannot see such books being economical to print, and I cannot see Kenster being interested in doing them for the pitiful sales royalties.

I've been working on a mod of an existing sci fi skirmish game called AE-Bounty. I've taken all the alien races and weapons from Prime Directive and converting them to AE-Bounty rules.

In the meantime I've been accumulating some Starfleet type miniatures for this.

These are mostly Victory Force Miniatures Spacefarers and Mega Minis Starship Crew figures. The Klingons are VFM's Alternate Universe Spacefarers (the same sculpts as the Spacefarers but with medals, sashes and those evil goatees).

Personally, I think Victory Force minis are pretty ugly, but you're doing an excellent job with them. The Klingons are exceptionally awesome especially when you consider that they're not really meant to be Klingons. You've managed to incorporate the pseudo-Trek-movie-esque uniform bits into the Klingon uniforms.

Thanks everyone. I was at a bit of a quandry about the uniforms. None of them are exactly classic Trek vintage uniforms. However, I was shooting for Starfleet Universe and not canon Star Trek Universe anyways. Based on some of the art in the PD rulebooks, I've seen lots of artistic license being used on the uniforms which vary from straight out pure canon Star Trek to a blend of TOS era and TNG era.

So I decided to not stick with solid colored shirts for the Federation and paint the shoulders black, which is sort of a nod to the TNG uniforms. However I kept the rank sleeve bands of the TOS era uniforms. Overall I think they came out to a nice blend.

I tried to incorporate some of the SFB races into the mix. You might see a few Cygnians and Rigellians in there.

I definitely spotted a couple of Cygnans at first glance, and after going back I can see a Rigellian.

Well, here's my finished up Starfleet Marines to go with my Fleet Crew.

These are actually old Task Force Games official Starfleet minis that were made by Harlequin some time back. I've had a hard time finding them and just recently emailed Black Tree Design (successor to Harlequin) about them. They just responded back yesterday stating that they are considering re-releasing them but not in any time soon.

The next thing I have to work on is some Kzinti Marines. I plan on making them out of these.
