fed and empire vs world in flames

Post by bolenbr »

a buddy of mine plays world in flames http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1499/world-in-flames. It takes him six months to finish a game. Is this comparable in compexity to fed & empire?

Close, maybe.

Someone once said that Federation and Empire is not a complex game in and of itself, rather it has lots of simple mechanics that, when combined, make the overall game complex.

In this manner, it is more like Empires and Arms or Europa than WiF.

The time it takes to play it really depends on how often you play. For me, I manage about 1 gaming session every 2 weeks. This usually works out to one full turn of the game, depending on the number of battles, for my regular opponent and I. It also gives us time between sessions to handle the economics phases which can eat up a lot of time.

If you go the full 36 turns without one side conceding... a little more than a year; maybe a year and a half.
With 7 of us in the local group and one, 6 or 7 hour long Saturday session a month - it takes about two years.

So far, its taken half a year... I figure for the full thing it will take us 2 years.

But with ISC War it may take more than 36 turns... :-)

Pretty close to my estimate. Just remember - the first turns go much faster than the latter ones due to fewer empires involved, fewer ships, fewer special units, fewer raids, fewer overall battle hexes...

Hey I love both these games, but they both work best when you can knock out at least 1 game session a week.
