Also, there is a reference in (6B2e), second to last paragraph:
(6B2e) Special Cases: There are several:
A unit being "towed" (5D6) takes damage at the speed it is moving through asteroids.

I don't think it's reduced to zero, it just becomes that of the towing ship minus-one as you said.

I was referring to the general shield-damage rules, not the rules for a ship moving into the asteroids on its own. If you shove somebody thorugh sideways, he takes the damage on the side.
