Fed Hospital Ship

Post by Aabh »

I'm using a 2500 Old CL for a hospital ship and I have a question:

Does a Hospital ship have the torpedo launchers on either side of the... um... I guess it's not a "saucer"... the front part.

That seems a little "Anti-Hospital ship" but before I clip off the launchers then regret it, I thought I'd check :D

The Hospital Ship does not have photon torpedoes (or anything like that). However, I recommend NOT cutting off the "horns", as they would have been used for something else, not simply removed.

Maybe they got converted to docking grapples / gangways to send rescue teams onto crippled ships.

Most of the "guts" for a given weapon is inside the hull, to make it easier to service and repair. Usually, only an emitter ball-turret, or collimator band, or (in the case of photons and plasmas) a firing-tube port are exposed to the outside.

The oCL is an odd duck, since it's photons were old, early, version that was much bigger. I'm sure those were swapped out for modern mounts when the ships were refitted (one of the many times), but those big "tusk/horn" housings remained. Like Mike said, the excess space in them was undoubtedly put to some other productive use (even if just more storage).

And let's not forget ST:II...a corpse fits nicely in a torpedo casing.

And where did you get enough 2500's to have an extra CL to turn into a hospital ship? Nice problem to have!!

No extras... I actually (Forgive me, I know it's popular) don't like the OCL too much, I intend to deploy NCL's in my fleets when those come out. So this is the lone OCL that comes in the Squadron box. At the moment, the "role" of the NCL's in my battle squadron are being played by a single CA until the NCL's become available.
