I went to the home improvement store (where else would you go for kitbashing supplies?) and bought a bag of landscaping rocks which looked to me like perfect asteroids. I then drilled some holes in them for stands and for engines and sensor probes (as opposed to dishes). I destroyed several of the rocks, but managed to create a caravan (2xDN, 2xBC, 2xCA, 4xCLs). As happens when there are too many ships in a caravan, I am splitting them up, sending half of them to my brother and keeping the others for myself.
Here are pictures of the set that is leaving for parts unknown. I know that the official description of these ships says that there are no protrusions like engines or sensor dishes, but the cover art shows a little bit of this. Also, like I said before, I wanted more than a few rocks on stands for minis. I also lit up the phasers with bright orange as if the ships were in battle.
That's enough back story. Here are the ships!

The CLs

I almost made an effort to make individual ships asymetrical (as described in the text). That is clear when you look at the DN, first from the rear (with the warp engines glowing red and the impulse engines glowing blue and then from the front. Also, the phasers are set in pairs in a layout consistent with the SSDs, but are positioned according to the rock. On one corner they are one above the other and on another they may be side by side.
