Still looking around nervously, he takes a seat... and shows you a wafer hanging from a chain around his neck. He explains that it is a key to lockbox 9674-A2. [The lockbox system is ubiquitous, even at small ports like this. --GM] He says there's a package in it that he needs to have delivered to a man named Urkinu Gamega and who will be here shortly. He says he has urgent business to attend to and can't make the delivery himself... and he offers you $500 up front... and an extra $500 after the delivery has been made.

You are in a maze of twisty passages all alike.

The Slirdarians haul their crates until they come to another docking bay. It's the Orion light raider! Just before they turn the corner, one of the Slirdarians bumps into a post.

"Careful!" the Dunkar accountant exclaims. "These fire control systems are worth a small fortune... but only if they make it to the buyer intact!"

Skexis has a hunch that the cargo is something more interesting than fire control systems. He sets his phaser to stun, hits the nearest Slirdarian, and rushes to catch the end of the crate he was holding.

Yeah, there's hardly any Klingons at that tavern. You're good to go!

Okay.... [GM makes an off-the-cuff ruling and rolls some dice. GM makes a call.]

Skexis slinks toward the Dunkar and the Slirdarians... draws his weapon silently... and... misses?! (Even if he had hit, he would have failed to catch the crate....) [Wow... those were some horrible rolls. So sorry!]

The phaser ray disappears into the rafters. The Dunkar turns and sees Skexis... uh... lurching towards him with his weapon drawn. He completely misinterprets what is happening, and...

"Oh, it's you!" he says. "Our Warrior escort was too late to join us and we sure could use some extra protection on this deal. Did Muankaal send you to cover for the Klingons' absence?"

[GM note: normally I'd require a saving throw to gain a recovery in a complicated botched action like this... but this result already fit with what I imagined the consequence would be. No roll required this time. The Klingon escort really was AWOL in my imagination before the dice started rolling.]

The Dunkar accountant seems relieved.

You arrive at the Orion Light Raider and set down the crate.

A swaggering Orion with a holstered disruptor pistol looks over the contents while the Dunkar reads off the packing list. He looks unimpressed.

"Fifty thousand credits," the Dunkar demands.

Three hulking figures of indeterminate species come down the ramp and fan out behind the Orion. He has an exaggerated look of disappointment as he looks over the goods. He clucks his tongue in disapproval.

"Oh, I dunno.... The Federation makes such piss poor products anymore. And how can I be sure that your grubby Klingon masters haven't wrecked these things. They can't be worth more than ten!"

Skexis growls and puts his paw on his phaser. He also glances at the Dunkar for his reaction.

[GM rolls dice.]

Skexis is big... strong... tough... and has claws... but... to the worldy wise Orion, even a big dude like Skexis is not particularly threatening.

The Orion chuckles half under his breath. He looks Skexis up and down as he casually walks around him. Then... without even looking at him... turns to the Dunkar accountant and says, "here you go...." Reaching into his pocket, he hands a 10,000 Credit wedge to the Dunkar. "So nice to do business with you."

Then... while still looking the Dunkar in the eyes... he cocks his head to signal to his three flunkies to come get the crate.

The Dunkar doesn't flinch. He returns the gaze while making no visible signal to Skexis.

The big mooks of indeterminant species grab the crate and haul it on board.

"Have a nice day!" the Orion says.

...

You arrive back at Muankaal's ship. Muankaal steps out of the ship. "How'd it go?" he asks the Dunkar accountant.

"As expected, sir," he says. "He only paid 10,000."

"Ah... then we should be getting a comm right about...."

Muankaal's communicator chirps.

"Yes? Ah... I see. You bought some phaser-I fire control systems that didn't have any sub-ether components? Ye gods, man, why would you do that?! Yes, well... I just so happen to have some here. You can have them for... oh... I don't know... 40,000 credits. I see. Yes. Well I don't see what my mother has to do with this. Uh huh. Look, do you want the components or not? Allright. We'll be here. Buh-bye."

Muankaal turns to Skexis and says with an evil look, "all is proceeding as I have forseen...." He then laughs maniacally.
