BoM expanded klingon firing arcs

Post by ncrcalamine »

In Capt Log roughly 38 ( at work no books) there was a article on BoM expanded klingon firing arcs for wing and boom phasers by ship type. At our local game store (Game Empire Pasadena) the store owner who is a renowned klingon player wanted the expanded arcs. Eventually a compromise was reached.

We use the printed wing arcs on the ships but any klingon ship with boom phasers can shoot them straight backwards in the three hex pattern. Range 0-3 a single hex, range 4-6 triple hex, 7-9 quintuple hex ... pattern.

This was a much more simple solution than the Capt log article. It also increased the lethality of klingon ships quite a bit. Straight back a D7 can shoot 9 phasers. A C7 ( or c5 [not sure] 192 point ship) can shoot 12. We have been using this since the article came out.

Just something to think about when BoM comes about.

Being rear Bore-sighted by a Klingon is indeed a painful experience.

Just a note any ship with a large under boom mounted center warp (C5, C8, C9, C10, & iirc the B10) do not get the special boom arcs.

If you are going to just do the simple rules, the Klingon boom phasers should just get the single hex row straight back. In the article it does widen, but not quite that fast (I don't think). The simple SFB rule says it is the single hex row.

Also, if you are going to do that, then Federation saucer ships with LF+L and RF+R side phasers (e.g. CA, CC, DN) can also fire down the hex row directly behind them.

And, just for fun, Gorn ships with center mounted 360 phasers canNOT fire in the hex row directly behind them. (Just the 360 phasers. Any non-360 phaser is unaffected.)

Well, they become extremely under powered if they shoot one of their warp engines off!

Gotten to the point when every empire has to have what the others have, why bother even doing different ships for them anymore.

Well, every empire WANTS it, but (except as conjecturals) we don't always give them what they want.

I think the specialized arcs add a lot of personality to the game without being too fiddley.
