Nice! You're getting a more "painterly" look with each subsequent cover.

They are moving away from the glossy look CGI tends to have and have a nice natural-grit and depth of field to them.

Thanks guys! The more I do covers for ADB, the more I develop my style. At first I tried to do everything in 3Dmax, but I've been figuring out that I can make images seem more "alive" if I do some touching-up in photoshop afterwards. 3Dmax is great for constructing spaceship models and lighting them, but there's no way I could have done that hellbore effect with it. And as long as I work for ADB, I don't plan to stop improving my technique! :D

Hopefully sooner or later SVC can greenlight the calendar project. Then I can really go nuts!

Great work, nice to finally really see Hellbores in action. Would love to see some of this available via CafePress.

Nice, very nice indeed.

Stingers firing suitably large quantities of Fusion beams, of course!

On a more serious note, is that intended as a Hellbore - ESG interaction around the Lyran ship at top right, or just a Hellbore - shields interaction?

Encore!

I'm betting Hellbore-ESG, look how it's arcing to the rear of the ship. Really nice.

And yeah, some Stingers shooting out of the launch tubes would have been cool too.

It's just be a hellbore on shields. It's supposed to look like the energy is snaking around the ship, finding the weakest spot.

When Distant Kingdoms rolls around, you guys will be seeing Stingers a'plenty! :)

Calendar project? What calendar project???

It's probably too late, but they would be nice to have in time for Christmas...

I've seen some of those calendar project kits in stores. You know the ones that allow you to import your own pictures and then it prints everything for you. They even come with some kind of binding for flip-over pages.

Thanks Adam, it's very effective. The energy does appear to be snaking around the shields - but as it necessarily follows a curve this left me wondering whether said curve was an ESG sphere. Have you drawn/painted that interaction yet?

You've got me really looking forward to February now, which is something of a minor miracle.

This would be a calendar published by ADB that has SFU art in it. Think "Ships of the Line" calendars.

Not yet. But I'd like to. If I get a chance, I think you guys will be impressed. I picture hellbores knocking down ESG's in a very chaotic, dramatic way.

Update to the cover(the Steves wanted it a little less purple":

I think that makes things stand out a little more.

Adam, just throwing this out there but sometime when you're doing a battle like this I think it would be cool to see a squadron or order of battle like you'd actually see: instead of all DNs it would be a DN (or BC), cruiser, destroyer, etc. For example in this picture a Klingon C-9 with a couple smaller Lyran ships (say cruiser & destroyer) supporting it versus the Hydran Paladin, a CM, and DW would been interesting.

Not a critisicm as I can't even imagine doing something like what you do but just an idea. And thanks for posting your artwork!

This particular image is for a box of miniatures, so the picture needs to include the ships that are found in the box.
