Hadn't realized you were playing Fleet scale. I haven't looked at what the differences in ships are at that scale in a looong time. When I was talking about squadron sized games earlier I was meaning 3 or 4 ships per side type of game. I seem to remember that fleet scale fights did throw up some oddities due to the way certain ships were converted, especially on plasma ships.
a 30 point advantage at fleet scale seems pretty big unless you were playing a large game.
But as noted before plasma vs plasma is tough game to play, if you want to win you have to prepare for a long game, concentrating on not dying first of all. Go fast and avoid getting hit as much as possible, if you are relying on shooting down plasma then you may well be doing something wrong to start with.

Steve (and the rest of ADB) was way too busy to give the rule change request a proper go-through. Since that time I have been more or less waiting for a good time to reengage. And with Jeans recent move and their attempt to catch up on several items (including the long delayed Traveller effort), now still isn't the best time to push it again.
The short answer is that it is on hold until Steve has time to really look through it.
