Carronade for X-Gorn?

Peter and I were talking about this yesterday. Thought it a good idea to ask here. Carronades are a function of plasma F torps. I don't have the SSD's in front of me at the moment, but I know the CCX has 2xS and 2xM. Perhaps some of the smaller units have type L launchers, but I don't believe they have F launchers. Do X units have the carronade ability? I know the carronade came much later in the rules than X ships. If so, how does it work?

According to one of the rule updates published in Module X1R, all X-ships armed with plasma-F or plasma-L torpedoes gain the use of carronades for those launchers.

(If you haven't picked it up already, X1R is a handy expansion in terms of showing more of what the era of first-generation X-ships in the Alpha Octant has to offer.)

I've been thinking about getting XR1. I want to see what was done to the Selts weapons and take a look at whatever additonal ships have been designed.

In reference to the carronade, what about those Gorn ships that don't have an L launcher? As mentioned, the CCX is 2xS and 2xM. Now any launcher can fast load an F in one turn for 7 points so perhaps that is the key i.e. any launcher can use the carronade in this fashion? Or perhaps they can't.

So far as I'm aware, the carronade has to come out of an -L or -F launcher. So if your plasma ship doesn't have either, you're out of luck. (But the upshot for Romulan and ISC X-ships is that they gain access to the carronade option for the first time, so long as they have the appropriate launchers on board.)
