Same Hex Marriage

Post by Dan Ibekwe »

Apologies about the title, but it did make you look :-)

I am in the same hex as an enemy ship. I have tractored her, and having committed more energy to movement, I control movement for both of us, and I have just Emergency Decelled.

Can I dock to the enemy ship and board her?

EDIT - scrap the ED, because that would lose control of movement. Replace with "both ships are the same move cost, so no movement occurs".

I am pretty sure once you emergency decel, you have effectively cancelled all the energy you allocated to movement. So if your enemy has put any power into movement then he will now control the movement.

I was just looking at the docking rule the other day for FRD's and the rule is actually a little vague about when a ship can dock to an opponents ship.

You are quite correct, hence my edit.

ah, that changes things. The first instance i was pretty sure about, this one, without looking up the rules i am not as sure, but i still don't think so. Reason is either ship could still accelerate and thus then be moving again. Even if they both accelerate and still cancel the movement, if same movement costs. Now if both are out of power, then i am not sure. I hadn't thought of this circumstance before.

(2D5a) specifically states that to dock to an enemy ship it must have no power. Also note that docking can only take place at the very start a turn and only if both ships are Stopped.

Basically, there is no real way to board an enemy ship by docking.

(Do note that you can force docking on a base, as it can't move.)

Oh well, that's pretty definitive. Thanks, Mike.
