Romulan uniforms and rank insignia

Post by ApocalypseMeow »

I've got some questions about those awesome Romulan rank insignias and uniforms. (I love those uniforms and helmets since their first appearance in TOS. Yeah, I'm that old. *sigh*)

First, what do the different colors of the sash mean? Similiar to starfleets division colors?

And second, where are those awesome rank insignias carried? If I'd had to guess I'd say on the collar of the uniform tunic. But I couldn't find a description in the Romulan sourcebook.

Thanks in advance for any help!

No idea about the sashes. That would be a question for Paramount. We're not the ones who invented/defined the sashes.

Rank insignia: We made up our own and posted them. Do you mean these?

They are worn on the sash and in small collar pins when not wearing a dress uniform with sash. If Paramount did rank insignia I don't know what it is.

Since I saw those sashes on some SFU / ADB websites and products I thought there would be an own interpretation of the meanings of those colors.

Yes, that are the insignias I'm talking about. They are magnificent! I love the artful design which is derived from the military eagle (war emblem of the Romulan armed forces) and the combination of latin and traditional names. My thanks to whoever designed them.

Sashes seem to be defined as something Romulans wear so our art shows them. I don't think I knew they came in different colors.

Insignia is a fascination of mine and I created them for most of the empires of SFU.

May I add another question regarding Romulan ranks?

Are ground formations commanded by admirals or generals?

I would have to say "generals".

Navy has Commanders, Captains, and Admirals. Marines / Army have Majors, Colonels, and Generals. While other empires might have something different (e.g. Romulan Sub-Commander), it would be "weird" to us humans to read about General Shazzlo in charge of the fleet and Admiral Zoodnot in charge of the ground forces.

That means, next to ante-Admiral, major-Admiral, pente-Admiral and magna-Admiral there are ante-General, major-General, pente-General and magna-General?
