So I plan to buy all of the FedComm products next month.

Placed order for Distant Kingdoms, Booster 19, and Briefing 2.

I hope I like this game... :P

Yes, it's a fun thread. :) The journal/memoir aspect of it is cool.

Now I'm trying to figure out what I am going to do with two battleships for everyone but the ISC (who gets one) and the Andromedans (who as yet have none).

thank you also for the kind words.

I guess the reason that we don't get the andro devastator battleship and the desecrator starbase is that FEDCOM is based during the General War.

not the Andro Invasion or ISC Pacification...they had x-ships during those campaigns

I think it covers the ISC War of Pacification because we do get the ISC (and one ISC BB card). We don't get X-Ships, but that's fine.

I thought X-Ships primarily came into service during the Andromedan Invasion. I mean there were probably a few before that, but it's been a long time since I read any of that history so eh.

Federation Commander is slowly porting over all the "eras" and other things from Star Fleet Battles.

Carriers and fighters have been in playtest form for quite a while now. Those and the larger PF gunboats have been competing with each other for the next slot in the FC development and print schedule.

The War and Peace expansion did indeed add the ISC and (most) of the Andromedan ships.

The late-General War advent of the advanced technology "X-ships" will probably come to FC eventually, but there are other things in the way that seem to have more fans waiting for them. (I personally find the X-ships to be just game-breaking "Munchkinism" run-amok, but there are just as many people who hate the carriers and fighters).

All the Andromedan ships are big and mean compared to their Alpha Octant adversaries. Their standard "shows up in most-scenarios" ship, the Dominator, easily outclasses most dreadnoughts in a duel. The vast majority of Andromedan scenarios are squadron or fleet fights, because of this.

The really, really big Andromedan ships (like the Devestator) are so terrifying, that only the advanced technology ships are really peers to them.

I am pretty sure the reason the Devastator and Desacrator have not been done because they each require a full sheet laminated card (like the battleships and star base) instead of the normal half-sheet. I am also sure that a big enough fleet using only Federation Commander ships could kill them. You don't need X-ships to take them on. (Though, obviously, they always help.)

True.

I think my brain was latched onto the way they were introduced, timeline-wise, in SFB.

In FedCom, no timeline, points is points, and all's fair in love and war.

Why take just one Devastator when you can have two for twice the price?

Actually, if you think the Devastator is bad, wait until you see its half-sibling from Star Fleet Battles Module C3A: the Devourer. That variant comes packed with four Dissection Beams; each of which can carve the warp engines off a cruiser in a single shot. A Devastator/Devourer duo can be a terrifying sight indeed...

The Devourer is one of four DSB variants which emerged over in the "dark future" timeline which the waylaid Galactic Survey Cruiser/Light Carrier NCC-1802 USS Darwin visited/created when it hit a time rift in Y195 (2595). Fortunately, no Dissection Beam variants were encountered in the "standard" SFU timeline.

In the long run, I'm hoping that the infamous Darwin scenario from SFB Module X1 might be convertible to Federation Commander - or, indeed, that the prospect of a "dark future" product (as mooted over on the BBS) might allow for the four DSB variant Motherships to appear as FC Ship Cards.

Actually, one other reason why I'm hoping to see first-generation X-ships appear in FC is that I want to see a Ship Card done for my favourite Star Fleet ship: the Advanced Galactic Survey Cruiser NCC-1821 USS Sakharov. Not that there's any guarantee of a GSX Ship Card being created even in the event of a future "X1-Ships Attack" module, but still...

And of course, once Module X2 - and a subsequent module featuring the Xorkaelian Tyranny - were to appear in SFB, both of those would be more than welcome here in FC also.

I totally look forward to C3A, when I finally get it.

I have to admit, I am curious as to how X2 ships will be handled. I'm glad we're getting the Xorkaelian Tyranny because new enemies are fun. :D

There are discussion threads for Module X2 and for the Xorks over on the Discus BBS, along with a range of proposal/speculation/discussion threads for other would-be future products for SFB (and for other game systems, not least for the strategic-level wargame Federation and Empire).
