SFB Ship List
Is there an updated ship list? The last one I have is from 2014.

For Federation Commander, the Master Ship Chart from the Commander's Circle was last updated with Captain's Log 52. Granted that was last year, but it is still more recent than 2014.

If there is a ship book, I'd be the guy doing it (and right now my bad health is limiting my work hours so much it won't happen this month or next). I am not entirely sure what you are asking about as "ship identification book" doesn't sound like any product we have ever done or planned to do.
A "Reference Ship Book" would just be background information. In the FC game system, everything you need to know is on the card so you don't "need" a ship book at all (which is why it wasn't done even though it would be easy). In SFB about half of the information on how to fly the ship is in the "ship description rule" for that ship.

Well, the "easy version" is to just go to all the rulebooks, capture the ship sections, paste them all into one document, then shuffle all of the ships for each empire together. No new text would be created. This would take about two hours.
The "medium version" would require new paragraphs to be written for all of the ships in Communique (100+) which would add about four-eight hours to the above.
The version I presume people want is the "hard version" which would mean going to SFB MSSB, copying each ship, then sifting and rewriting to bring over very jot and tiddle of nuance, background, clever thoughts, and information of no use in the FC system. This would take every working minute for two or three months. And that assumes sometime next year when the upcoming surgery fixes my health and I can work eight hours per day instead of two.

I'd be very happy with basically what's in the rulebooks, so all the ships from the official sets, compiled into one book.
A nice picture of the ship, some information about the ships role in the fleet, the general date when the ship began use, maybe a rough estimate of how many of the ship are in the fleet, and a list of names.
A book like that would be awesome.

There is a Starship Name Registry document (PDF) in the archives: http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents ... gistry.pdf
Also, there's a NCC number listing in another document: http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents ... umbers.pdf
Much if not all of the data is duplicated in the first document.

Well, Grimm, you're asking for two different things.
1. I'd be very happy with basically what's in the rulebooks, so all the ships from the official sets, compiled into one book.
THAT ONE is very easy.
2. A nice picture of the ship, some information about the ships role in the fleet, the general date when the ship began use, maybe a rough estimate of how many of the ship are in the fleet, and a list of names.
That is the "hard" one taking months of work.

Oh, I wouldn't necessarily want any more info than is in the rulebooks. Some of the descriptions already contain info such as the ships role and general launch date. I think they all have nice pictures and lists of names already.
I worded it a bit poorly, but I'm basically saying that what I've already seen in the rulebooks is fine and the type of general info I find useful for my games.

Well, it's for Star Fleet Battles (SFB), not FedCmdr, but ADB is publishing the R-sections for each empire, and that does include a description of each type of ship along with a clipart of the top-view.
For fleet sizes, you can pull down the Federation & Empire (F&E) Order Of Battle (OOB) that lists the historical fleet roster at the start of the General War.
Go to the other board, the "starfleetgames.com/discus" board, and drill down to:
-- Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board
---- Federation & Empire
------ F&E Master Orders of Battle
From there, you will find each empire has its own thread. Drill down into each and you should see a link to the sub-topic with the actual file. For example:
-- Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board
---- Federation & Empire
------ F&E Master Orders of Battle
-------- 01-Federation OOB Discussions
---------- Federation Order of Battle
There used to be a consolidated list, but it got to be too much to try and keep it up to date every time one of the smaller files changed. So, sadly, it's gone.
