Drones origin

Post by Grimmshade »

In the original SFB, what was the origin/reason for the decision to include drones in the universe (since it's not something we see in ToS battles)?

From my recollection, when SVC looked at the blueprints of the Klingon D7 when designing SFB, he saw that there were missile launchers included in the design. He decided that he would stick with the blueprints.

Cool man, I figured there had to be some basis. I know nukes are mentioned in ToS, but not specifically as drones appear in SFB/FC.

Been out of the loop for a bit, but I just saw this...actually, the missiles on the D7 blueprints are meant to be purely for target practice (they are labelled as target drones). My guess is that SVC chose to make them offensive to give the Klingons something to make up for those phaser-2s.

The blueprints also describe the target drones being used as warhead delivery systems. I didn't make it up; it's on the blueprints.
