Traveller Core Rulebook Update 2022

Post by Stan Shinn »

There is a new edition of the Traveller Core Rules coming out:

https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/trav ... -2022.html

Which means the Traveller PD product, if it remains a setting guide that still requires the Traveller Core Rules, may want to steer clear of mentioning page Traveller Core Rules numbers, since there will be two editions in circulation.

Also, for us playtesters, if we refer to something in the Traveller Core Rules, we should specify which edition we're using. The PDF of the Traveller Core Rulebook Update 2022 is already available for purchase.

After discussions with Matthew Sprange at MGP, and SVC/the ADB staff, I've made the two decisions.

First, we will be using the 2022 update as the base book. There is no problem if you/your group has and is happy to keep using the original MGT2 core book instead of getting the update.

To avoid confusion when referencing *any* of MGP's books for Traveller 2, Identify the book and the page number.

Second, there is a reasonable probability that a significant number of people will hold off getting the new core book. Having page references accommodate two core rule books will be a nightmare so the TPD Core Rule Book will be a *full* book, and there will be no references back to either of the two MGT core books.

Awesome!!! I think this is a great move. Will make it much easier to run or play the game.

Agree totally. I love how Gurps PD is a full rulebook and to start you just need one book to start. That said, I think that owning the other Gurps books and supplements can be helpful down the road. Giving TPD a "Trav. Lite Rules" is a good move that will pay off and help gamers purchase both ADB and MGP additional supplements to fuel the game. I did purchase the PDF of the 2022 book, but have not dived into yet (was waiting to see what happens here).
