I'm wondering: if you are using Stage 3 Fast Start Rules, and not using Drones or Suicide Shuttles, would you allow a second Direct Fire of an Offensive Weapon, say, after 4 Impulses?
I'm thinking 'No", but I wanted to ask people's opinions.
And should I go up to Stage 4 for fighting a Monster?

No. While some rules and systems are ignored, the rules used should be the full, normal rules with no special cases. No reason to learn something you are going to immediately throw away.
I don't remember what is in Stage 4 specifically, but if a monster is just "kill it before it kills you" slugfest, you should be able to just go to town. If, however, it requires "lab points", you will need to have already included the lab rules to play that scenario.

Stage 4 lets you use Drones and Suicide Shuttles. I figure it would be normal against The Planet Killer.I don't remember what is in Stage 4 specifically, but if a monster is just "kill it before it kills you" slugfest, you should be able to just go to town. I've been planning to use Stage 3 and Fleet Scale for everything. Except the Monsters.
Thanks
