Looking for a Klingon ship

Post by Captain Nebula »

I'm trying to find a Klingon ship that has two Disruptors and a Plasma Bolt.

Is there a way to search for ships by armament?

No, there is no way to find a ship based on armament. That isn't something I aware anyone else has really asked for, so it doesn't exist.

That said, there is no Klingon ship that includes plasma weapons of any kind. There was once a version of the D5 that included four Pl-F instead of disruptors. However, that was a complete change, so it had no disruptors. And the ship was deleted from the game in the last edition of SFB and replaced with a different design that used the same designation. As a result, there is no Klingon ship that uses plasma, and there has never been a Klingon ship that uses both disruptors and plasma.

If you want such an armament, you'd need to use Orion ships and take advantage of their option mounts. It would be very easy to get a disruptor and plasma armament on various Orion ships. Alternatively, you could use WYN "fish" ships and abuse their option mounts. The WYN ships are only supposed to use phasers, drones, or ADDs in their option mounts, but I suppose you could install Pl-Fs instead for a change-up. That'd be strictly unofficial and require the buy-in of the other players, but that is a reasonable alternative to get the desired armament.

Mike, not a current ship but a crazy what if, the Klingons left the Plasma Fs on one of the RKL cruisers as a possible Cloaked Pirate Hunter. Eventual this RKF? was converted to a regular RKL as the Spare Parts ranout?
Or the last RKL was turned over to the ISF because it was to expensive for the DSF to continue to operate solo. And they considered reinstalling the Plasma Fs to hunt pirates.

If you wanna have some fun with that, then replace the Pl-S with 2xDisr and the Ph-3 with drones as in the standard RKL, but leave the Pl-F unchanged. Then it has 2xDisr, 2xDrone, 2xPl-F. I have no idea how effective or ineffective such an armament is, but it is completely reasonable from a comparison standpoint. (I am assuming that the Pl-S is too high maintenance, whereas even in the worst case they can buy repair parts from the Orions for the Pl-F.)

(I.e. I am just explicitly spelling out Dal's suggestion. I agree is is completely reasonable, but I don't think repair parts would actually be a problem because of the Orions.)

But again, you can do whatever you want, as long as your opponents are OK with the experiments. Don't expect such ships to become published, however.
