A few SFB ship stat questions
OK. I'm going through my usual sources for stats and I wanted to confirm the following:
1. Does the Fed CB really have restricted arcs for its left and right side phasers? I guess it makes sense since it's evolved from the CC, but one might figure that all the war designs had 180 degree arcs, so some modification might be in order.
2. Does the Fed CVS (Cruiser sized carrier, like the USS Nimitz) really only lose 2 phaser 1s as compared to the CA in exchange for the fighter wing?

Ah! OK, now it makes more sense. The original article in CL#5 showed the disposition of the 6th Fleet and there was the CVS Raeder and CVB Nimitz. But the scenario Aces and Eights in CL#31 had the Nimitz as a CVS+. I had just figured the CL#5 reference was a typo.mjwest wrote:In game terms, the SSDs are identical.Rindis wrote:The CVS and CVB are pretty much the same ship.
Where are the drone racks on the CVS+ located anyway? The rear of the saucer or in the hull?
Since you're interested in the 6th Fleet's status on the Day of the Eagle, I'll point out that the current F&E Order of Battle is available on-line here:
http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents ... Battle.pdf
There's no names given there, and ships sent to it after the Klingon invasion aren't listed (since that's left to the player to decide), but it can fill out a couple things that have changed since CL5. (Also note, F&E ignores refits.)
But to discuss a bit:
DN: This would be the Unification. Old-style dreadnought, Probably built ~Y150, mothballed, reactivated in Y169. Starts as a regular DN, could have been refitted by DotE. (This is a refit that shows in F&E, and given that the Feds have extra cash at that point, and there's no reason it's not on the starbase, would generally get refitted in normal play.)
DNL: 2161 Star Lion - Light/fast dreadnought.
CC
CVB Group: Nimitz Built in Y170. + 565 Halsey + 315 Fletcher (+ 351 Langsdorff?).
CVS Group: Raeder + 569 Donitz + 327 Lutjens.
3xCA
3xCL
CMC: Troop carrier version of the CL.
3xDD
SC: Scout version of the DD.
6xFF
FFS: Scout version of the FF.
TG
AxCV: (SAV) Auxiliary carrier - a small freighter modified to carry a squadron of fighters, I forget the exact SFB designation.
FHL: Hospital auxiliary. A hospital ship built out of a large freighter. (That's the F&E designation, I think SFB uses a different one.)
FRD: Fleet Repair Dock.
FXP: Federation Express. Small, fast courier ship. (Again, don't remember the SFB designation offhand).
EDIT: update again

Nice!
I've inquired about the Unification, and I was going to make it a DN+.
The DNL should be the Star Tiger according to CL#27, which was sent to the Klingon Front after the war started to replace the lost Star Cougar.
CL#5 has most of the ships there listed. A few are different--there are a few more frigates in CL#5 and, only generic CLs and no FFS.
I guess the FFR doesn't exist in F&E, since both carrier groups are listed as having FFE (and only one) as opposed to the 2 FFRs for each listed in CL#5.
But this is rather nice to have.

F&E doesn't see a difference between the 'E's and 'R's.
Also, The way escort groups work changed ~'90-93 (Captain's Edition SFB and Deluxe Edition F&E). As I recall, the [CVS+DDE+2xFFE] group used to be the standard in early F&E, but would be a (legal) 'overstuffed' group today, and not common.
As I said, new ships sent after the Klingon invasion don't show up, which should account for the missing frigates nicely.
I don't know if the FFS or CMC predated CL5 or not (I think the CMC does), but neither existed in F&E at the time.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that.
FC history seems a bit looser than SFB history (with all those extra fun battleships running around.
), but that is still possible in straight SFU history.
F&E shows one CS in the Home Fleet in Y168. There are two more in mothballs (I believe I remember that they're actually unfinished hulls that were put aside.) So there could be three CSs on DotE, but activating them would delay activating the 6 mothballed CAs, so there's probably only one so far (I would expect the other two to show up in Y174). Either way, it wouldn't be unreasonable for one to get sent to shore up the 6th Fleet before/right after DotE.
However, the FFB doesn't exist until Y175.
Oh, the one CS would be NCC-1636 Prometheus.

I've got the names from both RA and CL#5, and they're division assignments just before the invasion in Y173.
I think most of the FFBs that are supposed to be in the 6th Fleet are going to be the conversions talked about in the CL History article (CL#31?) as the named ones all served with the 3rd and 4th Fleets primarily, IIRC.
One was transferred over to the 6th Fleet before Operation Remus. I recall that it was badly damaged in that operation and the 6th and 3rd Fleets argued about who would pay to repair it before it was transferred back.
Does anyone know what the policy is about renaming ships if they were converted? The official registry has some ships being renamed (the CL California became the ECL Patton, among others), while others are not (the CA Farragut became the CVS Farragut).
