I'm probably not taking part, but my first thought was an andro cobra. Fast clearing 40 point front shield is pretty good at that level. Then again I just like the andros whether they are good or bad.

The buffallo hunter is one of my faviourite ships in the game - All power on demand weapons and 360 PhGs, yes please.

The LR is pretty good, probably the only DC 4 (apart from another orion) and turn mode AA ship you'll see, +1 stealth, engine doubling and option mounts!

Hello,
Thank you for your interest. Frigate Wars will be handled using PBEM (Play By Email) rules. The information for PBEM can be found here:

http://www.starfleetgames.com/pbemgames ... /index.htm

Basically, you will be matched up again each other person in the competition, one at a time. Highest point total at the end wins.

Each turn you will plot out what you want to do that turn and send that information to me. This will include move orders, fire orders and situations that might cause you to want to change your plot. This is called an 'SOP'. I reconcile the SOPs from both players and post SITREPs (Situation Reports) as appropriate.

If you read some of the other threads for PBEM battle SITREPs, you will be able to to get a good ideal how it works.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Games called Frigate's War, does that mean I am not allowed to enter with a 85pts Destroyer ?

Any ship of 85 points or less (in squadron scale) is allowed no matter what the ship is called. I hope that helps :)

Seems interesting, but it must be very hard work for you ? I was referee in play by email harpoon game, and it was a pain to manage 8 ships

It can be a bit to handle, but back many years ago I used to do SFB PBEM games on compuserve and it worked out pretty well. Plus, each of these battles are one on one, not a free for all in one game. FC is simplified enough to make it much easier to run by PBEM, from my estimation, yet still complicated enough to make it interesting.

FC isn't that hard to handle via PBEM. I've been moderating the Escalation! game series.
It started off as eight one-on-one games. That was a bit... intimidating.
It's now down to four two-on-two games, which is a bit easier to handle.

Next up will be two, four-on-four battles. I've done multilpe three-on-three battles, so it should be OK at that point.
The final, eight-on-eight battle will be the most interesting.

But back to the topic at hand, Frigate Wars. Handling one-on-one frigate battles should be a cinch.

For determining point value we will be using the master ship chart for FC for any ship that was available at the time the latest MSC was made available. For any ship not on the MSC, we will use the card value.

I will edit the rules I posted for this competition to reflect this ruling.

I will take the Federation FF as my first choice, the Lyran DD as my second.

Hmmm, can't decide between Cobra; Selt FF; Frax FF, torpedo FF, or sub destroyer...

Just a reminder: please let me know my Sunday, April 24th, if you intend to participate in Frigate Wars. You can either email me, send a PM or post in this thread. Late sign ups will not be allowed unless someone drops out of the competition.

Also, no ship decision is final until after the first round match ups are posted. Once those are posted I will be asking everyone to tell me (through email or PM) what ship you plan on using. Whatever you select for your first match will be what you use through every round until the competition is complete. You can tell me in advance, if you like, but you are free to change your mind up until the above indicated cut-off.

As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
