Tugs in FC
I realize this has the potential to open a huge can of worms....
IIRC there are currently no tugs in FC, nor are there plans to add them.
There are some nice tug minis out there with current use for FC players.
Is there any reason why a tug towing a pod(s) should not substiture for the Light Freighter in FC? I am basicly thinking of a "counts as" case where a tug miniature is used on the map, but the small freighter ship card is used to track damage etc.
Please note, I am trying to avoid the need for a new ship card, new rules, etc to bring tugs into FC in a limited role.
Any thoughts on why this would or would not work are welcome.

Sure, one mini's as good as another. As long as your opponent isn't confused, no problem.
Some ship cards and rules for light tactical transports (tugs based on war cruiser hulls IIRC) have been published, a fleet scale Federation LTT in Communique, and others in Captain's Log #38 (I think).

We definitely plan to have tugs in FC, but only with cargo pods. The Fed one will be in Booster 91.
Subbing them for freighters is not a good idea. The Feds have 10,000 freighters and about six tugs, so they're kinda rare, and they're much faster and better protected than freighters and would change scenario balance all to heck.

The Federation Light Tactical Transport is different than the TUG? I assume that the upcoming LTT is the new hull design (based on NCL and NCA ship type) of the Federation Tug (from the older Zocchi plastic miniature) which will come in booster 91?
I have only been reading this board for a few weeks and the Fed Commander site about three weeks so I know these question are noobish.

The Federation LTT (like most empires LTTs) is a NCL modified to transport a single pod.
The Federation Tug is a seperate unit, designed from the keel up to be a transport tug. It can; therefore, tranport more weight (tonnage) than an LTT and go from point A to point B... faster than an LTT.

Adding to scoutdad's post above -
Tugs came first and date back to the Middle Years period (IIRC).
The Fed tug was a stablemate of the classic Constitution-class CA (and like it, comes from the classic FJS Tech Manual). Most of the other empire's tugs follow suit (a modified heavy cruiser used to tug pods around [usually up to two pods]).In the strategic game (F&E) tugs are built using the same slipways as heavy cruisers (and have a similar financial/resources impact).
The "war cruisers" (like the Fed NCL) weren't introduced until right before the General War, and LTT's (based on them) came along shortly thereafter.
In SFB there are also "mini tugs" known as Theater Transports based on frigate hulls. They can (barely) tote one pod around over shorter missions.

Tugs, for the most part, move full speed with pods. Most can carry one or two pods.
LTTs slow down when carrying one pod, cannot carry two pods.
Think of an LTT as a cheap half-a-tug for those missions when you don't need a tug but you need more than a freighter.
Pods and freighters are the same size (same thing, almost) but freighters are very slow, LTTs are fast enough to bring stuff to a fleet that really needs stuff NOW.
So 95% of your supplies come by freighter, and the tugs and LTTs exist for emergency resupply or to support quick strike missions.
