Starbase Help

Post by wedge_hammersteel »

I could use some tips on putting together a starbase. All of the pieces that I have are in good shape.

Should I prefit all of the pieces?

Should I superglue one piece to the main body then fit it with the next and then glue in the next. Repeating this pattern til I am all the way around?

Sounds like you found one of the old multi-piece ones?

The one time I dealt with one like that, I built the ring up from the individual pieces first, on top of a paper I had drawn an appropriately sized circle on (to keep it in the correct shape). I used coins as shims to hold them up and at the right angles to each other. Once I had a complete ring, then I attached that to the main body.

I think I attached the ring pieces to the core one at a time, going clockwise, but it's been so long since I put it together, I'm not sure.

All of mine were done one piece at a time... nore or less.

I used 3M brand handi-tak to hold each of the pieces in place to be sure they were fited corectly... then I'd remove one at a time and use a combination of Super-GLue and Zip-Kicker to get them set...
Then proceed to the next...
lather...
rinse...
repeat.

It worked for all 8 of my SBs

I put mine together one peice at a time as well. As a friend of mine said once, "Easiest way to assemble that old Starbase mini is to sell the old mini to sombody for scrap and buy one of the new 2-piece ones!"

I've had mixed feelings about some of the newer minis that have fewer pieces at the expensive detail, but in the case of the Starbase, the new one is a definate winner.

I snipped off the outer ring pieces so now I have the main piece with the little balls attached to it. It looks OK for my tastes.

SACRILEDGE!!!!
You've defiled the entire design...

Now you have to go out and buy 4 more and construct them properly as pennance!

Actually, he was saving time. Knowing that Hod'kel and I are just going to blow it up anyway, Wedge just modeled it to be more realistic.

All I would have to do is put a Mauler or some PPDs on the starbase and M's starships would warp away in terror.
