Lyran FF Question

Post by OGOPTIMUS »

So I was cleaning up some of my new Lyran minis over the weekend, and checking them against the SSDs so I know what parts get painted what color, and what I need to file off or add.

The CA and CL are easy enough, I'm confused about the FF. It's really the bumps on the top that are confusing me. I can't figure out what they are, since most Lyran ships have the FA phasers on the underside.

They're not the disruptors (I think) since those are on the tips of the two hulls, and I think the tractor beams are on the rear (not labeled in the pics below, but visible on the back). Can anyone help me out here?

Do I have it all wrong, and what I think are the tractor beams on the rear are actually the two shuttle bays and some of those phaser-like bumps are the tractor beams?

Thanks.

I've got nothing, as Lyrans ain't my thing. I know a certain guy in Tennessee who knows him some Lyrans though, and I bet he'll chime in.

I can't for the life of me determine who this "certain guy from Tennessee" might be, but I may be able to shed some light on your query.

The following is a quote from the www.starfleetgames.com webstore:
...The FF is based on the 2200 series DD, while the DD is a new design. These properly-scaled ships are in lead-free pewter...
Remember, the current FF miniature was originally designed as a DD mini, but it was woefully out of scale, so a new larger DD mini was designed for the Starline 2400 series and the old DD mini became the Starline 2400 miniature

Since the miniature in question was originally intended for use as a DD, it has the armaments of a DD. The mounts in question were designed to be the DD's phaser-2 mounts identified on the SSD as phasers 1,2,3,and 4.
To be anatomically correct, one should merely file off the unnecessary weapons prior to painting.

Darn!

I knew I should have done more digging. I remember that happened with several Lyran ships going from 2200 to 2400.

I guess I still have to choose which to file off, but that's a minor point.

Thank you sir!

My guess is that the DW and CW have the same issue since the starfleetstore website says the following:
The DW is the CW from 2200 series (which everybody knew was way too small) while the CW is an entirely new design just produced.
And it's also likely that the sculptor used the existing FF (old DD) mini to make the DW (old CW).

If'n (that's a southern word, by the way) it helps - I chose to keep the dorsal phaser mounts. They were a bit more obvious on the gaming table than the ventral ones would have been...

Thank you sir!
You're welcome. I'm still waiting for that certain guy from Tennessee to chime in with his two-cents worth, though.
