(Re)Basing Minis

Post by Warhammer »

So I was about to dip one of my minis in the stripper to strip off the paint and wound up dropping it on the floor. The base broke off where the post goes into the bottom of the ship.

Anyone have any great ideas for building a stronger base?

I assume you are using a plastic stand, as I don't know of the metal ones breaking like that (though I could be wrong).

You can drill out the top part of the stand and drill into the ship a bit further, then insert a brass pin into the deeper holes. That should hold really well.

I don't have a ton of experience, since none of my minis are glued to the base as I want to avoid this particular problem.

For larger minis:

Took B-10 base -- a 3/8" screw (it will fit right into the current hole)
then add a screw on extender (found 3/4" too tall so went to 1/2", but up to what you want it to do)

Took the nut for 3/8" screw and glued it over the current hole for the stem

To prevent mini from rotating on the base, took a second nut and screwed it onto the end of the extender -- then screwed the mini onto it ---

Works well for those that don't care to transport minis with the base attached --- Can also add a heavy washer to weigh it down if mini is top heavy ---

Check this out, it is similar to a method I use.
