Experience rules?

Are there any experience rules in FC - So that ship's crews can improve over time if they manage to survive battles etc?

No. FC does not have SFB-like ship quality rules. In FC, all ship crews are outstanding!

FC does have a 'Degraded Crew' rule, but that covers crews that are operating sub-optimally for some reason (sick, scared, slackers, etc.) However, the lack of performance is not "experience" related, but rather situational.

Thanks. Could you transpose the SFB rules over? I have a copy of SFB Captain's Basic Edition, I think, though never actually played it.

I don't see why not. That said, I am pretty sure the crew quality rules are in Advanced Missions, not the Basic Set.

That is a bit of a shame about being in the advanced set! Where they complicated?

No... not complicated at all.
Advanced Missions doesn't necessarily related to advanced (i.e., complicated) rules. It realtes to those rules not needed to play the Basic Game.

Movement rules are pretty much required to play the game, hence they are in Basic Set.
Crew quality - not so much, so they are in Advanced Missions.

take a look at the ship vistory point and experience tables found in the "federation Commander Campaing" rules in this forum.
