The ISC in duels

Post by captaincf »

I was making a list of ships for the next free for all, focusing on the CWs or the equivalent with a BPV limt of 140 with most coming in at 135. Unfortunately, the ISC have NOTHING in that range. I tought maybe the Light Cruiser, but that is 145 and the rear plasma Fs make it a very nasty ship in a duel, even with the firing restrictions.
Any idea what I should do?

In SFB, the early ISC ships did not have rear-firing Ph-3 or PL-F. Per rule (R13.R2), delete the PL-F and drop the BPV by 2 points per PL-F, and per rule (R13.R1) drop the Ph-3 for another point each. Further, per rule (R13.R3), early ISC ships had PL-G rather than PL-S, for five point reduction each torpedo.

Ergo, you can get the CL down from 145 to 137, 133, 127, or 123 points using the SFB mods.

There is another option, too.

When the Pl-Fs were introduced, some CLs and CAs started with only a pair of Pl-Fs, instead of the full set. So, you can have:
CL as printed.
CL with only two Pl-Fs.
CL with no Pl-Fs.
CL with Pl-G instead of Pl-S and no Pl-Fs.
CL with Pl-G instead of Pl-s, and no Pl-Fs and no Ph-3s.
(Note that these are the only possible combinations due to the YIS of the various refits.)

The BPV adjustments are given as Garth.

I didn't notice this was the SFB topic ... I thought it was a FedCmdr topic. Ergo, what I didn't include was the time line from (R13.Rx). The PH-3 were added in Y165, then the PL-G were upgraded to PL-S in Y170, and then the PL-F were added in as singles in Y171, and finally as pairs (or more for CA and up) in Y179.

Thanks. I had forgotten about that. I think the CM without the Pl-f and Ph-3s should be good. Still upper end, but it gives the players a chance to try out the PPD and has good plasma back up.

Captaincf,

What Sgt_G had pointed out with the YIS refits, was that in order to NOT take the Ph-3 refit, you also have to NOT TAKE the plasma G upgrade because this refit occurs after the Ph-3 refit is installed.

Sentinal,

If you're talking about the CM, it never got the PL-G to PL-S upgrade. On the flip side, it's first YIS is after the PH-3 additions. Ergo, he can take the CM at full value of 150, or drop one pair of PL-F for 146, or all PL-F for 142, but he cannot drop the PH-3 to bring it down to 138.

That is what I did. I am using the CM without the PL-fs.
